Enloe, as I said my camera gave up and I put my phone away so I would not be bothered. Here is a cropped pic from Tickety Bo on the USPEC thread. Of course the guys are right in front of the blower sticking out of the hood. Great looking car (owner is Skip) and he runs the car with John in the Brew City G***ers. In the one pic you can see Jim's 56 to the left. 20180602_101332r.jpg 20180602_101332r2.jpg

Jeff if you are coming to the Meltdown make sure they put you in the stock cl***. I believe we can put together a pretty good junior stock cl*** with the 56 Chevy wagon (Doug) and Chuck's 57 and the 62 Galaxie (I think it is called Thunder Road) and a few others and we can have some pretty good close racing. I tell them my engine is stock which it is right down to the camshaft and the rest is stock and they put me in stock. They put you in SS and they wanted to put me in gas and put it on the window but I asked them to put me in stock so I could run guys with similar numbers. I ran the Meltdown one year in HR and the guys had me by over a second every run which is not all that much fun. You would have been really compe***ive with us guys in stock and believe it may be a hoot to run each other at the Meltdown. Your choice of course but may be fun.

Enloe here is the only pic I can find of PBRme ASAP (Jeff) 63 coupe which ran well all day and he drove it home after the event (100 miles). Cool 327 coupe that has been in his family for ages much like yours-kind of similar story as it was handed down. Sorry for not having better pictures-may have to find a decent camera for the future. 20180602_105900r.jpg

Cool pics LB. I always liked the headers showing on these old Vettes and some ran extensions back in the 60s. Here is a pic of the Musser Brothers 61 that evolved into Rotunda's great running car that always seemed to give Lombardo in his 61 Buckshot a run for the money.

For the latest event I mentioned, I changed my header extensions and wish I could run it on the street that way. The kid in me likes the noise it is making now and when you are on it it sounds just like I want it to.

A few years ago when I first started running the car, the ****** Comps dumped right into the x member and echoed like crazy-could not stand it. I put some short extensions that aimed at the ground and then last year I noticed I was kicking up dust in the staging lanes. So this year I was determined to make a change so I added some 3" stainless extensions that looked kind of like a few of the guys that had the longer extensions in the 60s. Like the look overall but like I said I am bummed I could not run the car on the street with them. Such is life. Here is a side pic that kind of shows it.

Here is the Musser Brothers car in probably 65 with some longer extensions.

Doug that is a cool picture but I believe we are both in first gear. That is you getting the jump on me out of the hole. I recognize the trailer in the background and that is early on in the quarter mile. Cool pic and one of the closest drag races I have been a part of for sure. Looking forward to running you again at the Meltdown.

I will see if I can get the performance back into the 14's. I do need to inspect the P Case.....making sounds, I wonder if a Spider Gear took a bearing...

Doug everyone's times were off under the conditions but I am sure next year guys will have it sorted out-I believe. Chuck (the 57 above) and I had a really close run similar to our run but we ran in the 14s. Chuck says he is switching from a 4.11 to a 4.88 which will make him hard to beat. I am trying to get into the 13s. Better check that gear for the Meltdown as none of us want to break.

I am editing this post to include the 57 Chevy I referenced above and the pic I saved of the Rodders Journal photo in black and white of the run with Doug and myself.

The guys I ran with ran a 61 Vette in the same cl*** (F/S) as Lombardo with the same combination (at least when he ran the 283/270-in 69 he switched to fuel injection and then ran in G/S then). In those days you got a lot of info from National Dragster and we always seemed to be 2 tenths behind him no matter what we did 157kuiq (2).jpg and we always thought we were running strong. That car was and still is one of my favorites. Here it is today.

Bummer you wont be racing but I look forward to seeing you again. Anymore if the truth be told, most of the time at the event I am a spectator as well at the Meltdown. It is the only place to go to relive the 60s and I have spent a couple of times in the staging lanes for just a tad too long. Now I try to balance a bit of both so I am sure I will run into you.

Jim I turned on the computer and this thread was on, as it was I was at the GG in Rhinebeck today (a no brainer it's 3 mi. from my house) Took 138 pix here are some Corvettes, first one is our friend Baron from MA. the rest I don't know, enjoy. I would love to go to the meltdowns but with my car, I just can't afford it. I'm giving stuff away and nobody is taking it.

    Here's some random shots from some magazines I was flipping through earlier.... IMG_20180608_135441_1~2.jpg IMG_20180608_140327~2.jpg IMG_20180608_133539~2.jpg IMG_20180608_134700~2.jpg IMG_20180608_134719~2.jpg IMG_20180608_141338~2.jpg IMG_20180608_142128_1~2.jpg IMG_20180608_142143_1~2.jpg

Pat thanks for the pics. Of course we appreciate Baron's car that is a given. The other cars are cool as well.

I understand on the Meltdown. My business is a bit anemic and so I am watching my pocket book and it makes it difficult to do every thing we want. Also it is a bit of a journey for you to Byron Illinois.

Rudestude thanks for the articles. The first article on Rapid Rat is cool and this particular car was built and owned by Sinister's (on the HAMB) dad. Funny but Sinister says if he was to recreate any of his dad's cars it would be his 52/53 Stude (354 Hemi I believe).

I have pictures of the 62 that is the subject of the second article so the article is appreciated.

Thanks for your efforts and I like the articles more than just pictures as it adds some meat to the Corvette drag racing history-thanks.

Some more cool articles from 1968 I believe. As much as I like the Vettes I would love to own the blue Chevelle in the background of the wild paint mid year. I owned three 66 Chevelle SS 396 and they were great looking cars IMO. I had 2 -325hp and they were a bit sluggish but I had a 360hp and it was a decent performer (the wife's car as it had a white interior). She kept that car immaculate until it was stolen. I later found the car for sale and ended up prosecuting the guy that stole it. It was so beat up when I found it for sale but would love to own it today.

I also like the Chevelle ... I had a 67 SS 350HP 396 4spd red with black interior with a bench seat...it still even had the factory exhaust manifolds... bought it my senior year in HS 1979-80 from a couple that split..she got the car.. she said $500 I offered $400 ok she said I drove it home ...dad got pissed because it was a big block... I cruzed it ..drag raced it at the Wednesday nite Drags then after graduation I was going to go in the army so I sold the car after blowing the rear end out of it one night for $600 ...then I didn't go in the army after all.... tried to buy the car back from the ...girl..that bought it never could...some ****py shots of it...a guy gave me some slicks to try on it ..they didn't work...too tall ..old hard side walls air shocks maxed out ...wheel hop... Price less memory's... IMG_20180609_075010~2.jpg

Saw this last evening. Don't know the owner or anything about it, except that it 20180608_180714.jpg 20180608_180804.jpg is one very nice Corvette.

Like the car but may be on the fence as to the wheels. Probably a resto mod with a different ch***is and big brakes so the wheel choices are limited. Looks like the car overall though is done well.

I had an interesting experience with my 65 Malibu at PIR in 1975 in the lane that the blue Barracuda is in.
    I'll PM you later.

Love the Mr. Pickett car but would love to have the Chevelle also.
My first car was a 66 SS Chevelle that was clapped out but I loved that thing.

You're probably right about the build and wheel choices. Looks like 4 wheel DB's on there. I don't like speaking ill of someone's car, particularly, as the owner has to right to do it the way he likes. Having said that, there's no fence-sitting about the wheels for me. I think they greatly detract from an otherwise awesome car. Really like that dark blue paint.

Bowtie I agree with you, I just got back from day 2 of the GG's Rhinebeck and saw a lot of 17-20" wheels on cars. I didn't take pictures of them because I don't like them and it's not to my taste. I am stuck in a world of American mags and Halibrand's and you mention disk brakes being large well I never went fast enough on the street or track to require the largest Brembos made in the world, I think it's ***** envy that makes them do it.
