It was a good time pitting next to John and his blown 62. He wanted to see the details of what a kind of original 62 looked like and I wanted to see what a really cool (strong running) modified 62 looked like. Looking forward to seeing John run his 62 at the Meltdown.

My friends 56 Corvette, not a hot rod in the strictest sense but he did not want a restorers car. It has a modified 283 and 4 spd. First thing he did was take off hub caps to have the look of the one he raced in stock cl***. I posted his old 56 210 Jr. stocker on the Jr. stock thread.

That looks like it could be Connecticut drag way. I know Federici ran a lot on the east coast. I don't recall this car but saw his later one's around 68/69 at NY national funny car events.

I hate seeing that happen also...hope all works out ok for him.... I went through a health issue vehicle liquidation sale myself three + years ago it was a tough time dealing with it ...then they tell me that in the most part they got things under control I don't know what pissed me off more the fact that I sold off some of my cars or that after doing so I'm going to live...well I didn't sell them all and I'm still alive so all is ok so far....

As you said it is funny how the hobby goes.
When I lived in Serra Mesa I had a 62 I had bought just to have a project.
Then I get a good deal in a 59 that was a driver, so I put the 62 up for sale.
Mike Ernst was the first to show up and bought it as a parts car to help with his restoration.
Mike and I swapped emails about 10 years ago but I have not talked to him since. Her is a pic of me when I bought the 62.

For whatever it is worth I looked up the Uncle Sam's Pie Crust event and facebook coverage came up. My wife goes on facebook but I do not and am pretty clueless on how to save videos but gave it a try. I copied one of my runs and one of John's runs with his 62. I shorted John a bit earlier when I said his ET was 11.68 when it was an 11.48 and then the same ET he hit later on.

In my run with the 57 Chevy (301 ci) it was a time trial run. He ran a 14.97 to my 14.94 and beat me to the stripe but he went red on the run anyways. The times are nothing to crow about for sure but it still was a lot of fun, especially when the run is that close. I will try and improve at the Meltdown in a few weeks. I hope the links I copied work.

LB that was a GM styling exercise where they took a 54 Vette and made some proposed changes for the 1955 model. Somewhere I have a picture of the rear of the car where it resembled the Corvair styling exercise (hardtop) Vette for the 1954 Motorama. I liked the egg crate grill and the large V in the script on the door showed up in a different form on the actual 55 model. Not sure on the side vents but overall I kind of like the car. Harley Earl was the king of do-dads on cars and so no real surprise here. The Vette though was pretty much on life support so the General took the easy way out and made little changes (other than the V8) for 55.

With the T-Bird introduction in 55 GM kept the Vette on life support as opposed to killing the whole experiment and with performance considerations with the 56 and especially the 57 it lived to become a pretty successful sports car.

LB the Olds was a 1954 F88 concept car, while not a corvette I think it had a lot of the same features. It was especially perfect for this thread because it could be considered a corvette hot rod with an Olds engine. I saw this car at the Saratoga Auto museum some 8 odd years ago.

It is with great sadness that I say that Tony Feil p***ed away yesterday. He had open heart surgery 12 days ago and died from complications from an infection. Tony a long time div. 1 racer was also President of NETO the NY area nostalgia race group. I posted it here because he raced a beautiful 61 corvette but is not HAMB friendly looking. I will send it to anyone that wants to see it and Jim I am sending you one. RIP Tony.

This is the car that got all the attention at Barret Jackson years ago, brought maybe 3 or 4 million. A wise guy looking guy kept bidding and acting arrogant, had a Ferrari hat as I recall. The car is now in the Grand Junction, Co. museum owned by the owner of Discovery Channel. It sits on a revolving marble turn table. The Saratoga museum is a good one if you are in the area. There is also a Pontiac version, I think it's copper colored. And there's a green one too, maybe a Buick version. Several of them were at Corvette at Carlisle years ago when Chip was still alive.

Thanks Pat for the picture. Tony Feil was super talented for sure. He was one of my favorites although I never got to see him run. Friends of mine out east always spoke highly of him and his cars' performance always spoke for themselves. Sad that he p***ed away. RIP.

Here is a pic from page 46 of this thread that survived so maybe this tribute picture to Tony Feil will as well. Tony Feil's corvette in CMP..jpg
