That is certainly a new approach to fender flairs, maybe late 70's?.

Seeing these early road racing photos is frustrating. I don't "like" many of them because I've seen the pics in magazines and books previously. My frustration stems from the fact that the father of a long
time friend was a photographer and shot races / cars at the defunct Meadowdale Raceway in
Carpentersville, Illinois in the early sixties, and may have gone back earlier. My pal let me know
(a while back) that he came across his dad's slides. I damn near begged him to let me scan and
edit them, not for money making purposes but as a way to preserve history. I'm still waiting.

I posted this photo way back. I'm just using it as an illustration of what I'm trying to get my
hands on. I've got a feeling a few of you could appreciate those pics.

I was surfing channels last night and watched a bit of Elvis in Clam Bake. Never seen it before but this was his ride, looks like Mitchells car with some Hollywood "refinements". But I'd own it.

  10. Soo, lemme see if I understand this correctly, you’re telling me there’s a corvette in the photo, right?

LB I have been on a mini vacation but just noticed the #614 car above. This 1959 Washburn Corvette was a pretty solid contender and winner. I believe that Bob Bondurant was the go to driver during the 1961 season, when I believe many of its wins. Not enough of a Bondurant expert to know if that is him behind the wheel. I am pretty sure it is a big brake car. It survives and I believe is in a museum-maybe the Peterson.

You are right that the bar is a bit lacking let's say in the safety department. That is not uncommon on many of these old Vette racers. I think the tech was done with the driver standing off to the side but the tracks knew what was going on anyways. The rollbar was a checkmark on the stat sheet-later on they became more stringent. There was an easy fix to this situation in many instances and that was to remove the stock seat and put a thinner bottom cushion right on the floor with a thin support and attach the back cushion. I have seen so many people today fret with not fitting in these old Vettes and they spend thousands on all sorts of amenities but never seem to think about changing the bottom cushion.

In my avatar car I had the driver's cushion made low and my p***enger seat a bit higher. I knew my wife would want to look out the center of the windshield and at my height of 6'1", I also look out the center of the windshield. I have a three point roll bar and my head is under the bar height even with a helmet on. The bar fits under the hardtop.

I did not think Bondurant was unusually tall and this little hoop is definitely short.

Moriarity, that car does such a perfect job of emulating the early-60’s esthetic....It’s so cool and understated, and the stance is absolutely spot-on.
My pants feel funny after looking at that car![emoji15]
    Whats in it for power?

thanks man. I really wanted it to look like a rich kid high school car from 62-63...
for power it has a solid lifter 350 with a Man a Fre 4 x 2 intake and a flat cap Mallory dual point. with a 4 speed. It is loud and pretty quick and a blast to drive

Tuck n roll carried over into the headliner.....That thing is really slick!
    That intake is really cool,too.
Is it a nightmare to set up/tune/maintain,or is it pretty simple to get it running right? What are the carbs?Rochesters?
Sorry for all the questions....Pretty sure I have a new favorite car.[emoji16]

I couldn't afford one in 62-63 and after seeing yours, I still can't afford one in 2018. I'm stuck with a 57 Ford. Then I see the blue car and some blower car in front of it. All that in a garage bigger than mine. I'm just going to go sit in the garage and whine!!!:D:)
