Yes, I'd forgotten all about those tires until I dug out that picture. She wasn't shod thusly for very long but in 1968, it wasn't a bad look for a part-time cruiser and occasional bracket car. Before the paint job:

 

Digging the redlines with the dark spokes.

 

Guys I am trying to figure out the U.S. Nationals at Detroit in 1960 and for whatever reason I cannot seem to find the results for the stock Corvettes that ran at the meet. I believe that most Corvettes that were "stock" would compete in D/SP with a few of the lower horsepower cars (mainly 55-57) competing in E/SP.

The modified sports cars ran in AM thru CM/SP. There was a 57 Corvette owned by **** Valentine that competed in BM/SP but my records seem pitiful other than that. Anyone have any of the results?

I believe that's a picture taken at the "Headers by Doug" shop located on Whittier Boulevard in East L.A. Doug Thorley was a real supporter of Little Guy racers and he enjoyed putting together collections of the cars he "sponsored" for promotional purposes. Here is another such shot, I believe taken from a picture post card a few years later after several rounds of expansion:

Definitely photoshopped. Contrast is way off on the bumper, and it was from a pic taken at more of a angle. Also, you don't see the rear fins in the front pic. Rear angle is off a bit too. Good attempt, another hour or so and it would have been pretty convincing.

 

Maybe Moose could take a wack at it......

I have not found any results for the stock cl***es run at the Detroit Nationals in 1960 either . I believe this fact has been commented on in the literature . I would ***ume you have checked out the "small format" magazines like Trend Books for any information . Hopefully someone here on the forum was there and can enlighten us .

 

Thanks Bert, I have so many mysteries that I cannot spend too much time on it and hopefully I stumble on the reason. As you know, 1960 was not a banner year for Corvettes in drag racing so trying to add anything good to the mix if I can. Your car played an important role in 61 and 62 (along with some others) so 1960 in comparison needs some help. The 1960 Lemans win was a big deal for Corvette overall but Corvette drag racing was not quite the story IMO. I have looked in a few magazines but came up pretty empty.
