Absolutely love your car. My father and I have tossed the idea around back and forth about putting ours on a straight axel.

A straight axle would look great under your car, especially the way you launch it.

Yes I am pretty sure it is. We bought the car as a roller already prostreeted. We just had it painted and we slammed the 4 speed and 358 sbc in it and went gear jammin

    Hi Jim,
I love your Vette, how did you get that great stance in the front of your car with A-arm suspension ???

Hey Bob. Not to answer for Jim, but here are a couple pics of Jim's car with the 4 inch I-beams installed. Slick (and quick) way to raise the front end on these cars.

Hi Jim. It is a good start anyway. I'll have it at the shop as soon as the 49 Olds is up and "yard driving". :)

Hi Bob, I did it with 4" "H" beams. Back in 66 we tried it with 4x4 wood. N/G, It loosened up real quick and the car was all over the place. Next we went with 4" "H" beams, full length. Very heavy and took hours to cut, No sawzall back then, with hack saws.

Next I went to a single transverse tube axle.

No engine in the in this pix

Then went back to the 4" "H" beam for better handling. I improved the technique, and simply ordered shortened pieces from a local steel yard cut to 60 degree angles. Drilled them myself.

There are several old car races at Beaver. The one we usually do is is the second week in July. How does that work for you?? Or is there a better venue for cars like ours??

Hi Jim. Very similar. 1949 Olds 88 coupe is considered the “original muscle car”. I started this project last September. Running a 1966 Olds 425/muncie 4spd. along with a 69 Camaro front clip. This will be somewhat a sleeper. Anxious to finish this one so I can start on the Corvette.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for getting back to me, I told Baron I have a buddy with a 61 Vette that wants to raise the front end without installing a straight axle. I showed him your car and he loved it. I will be racing at the Nostalgic Gasser Reunion in Beaver Springs the 2nd weekend in June. Hope to see you and Baron there.

CG, if your friend does go the 4" H-beam way, tell him to round off the ends that go toward the radiator. If not, he may puncture the core. It is really close on the top edges.

Does that statement have any thing to do with my way of lifting the car?? If so, what are your conclusions and experience.

It has been off and on for the last few years on the car. Always something comes up to spoil the completion it seems. I thrashed on the car with a date to make Detroit Autorama and made it with a few hours to spare. To say it is really finished is a bit of a white lie as I have a few matters to attend to before I am able to have some fun with the car this spring but here are a few shots at the show.-Jim

I took third. The car that took first was a high dollar restomod that had a nice display right next to the great 8 cars. I am not into restomods but it was high quality and since we were in the same class it was a no-brainer for the judges. I knew I did not stand a chance. I had one of the great 8 owners (Dads 34) tell me afterwards that I should have scored better than third but such is life. The biggest reward is that the car will be on the march once again come spring. It has spent most of its life as a drag car out of New Mexico (64-78). I bought it in 82 and moved it around my shop for years until my wife a few years ago asked how long it would take to fix the mess that this car was. I was overly optimisitic. Glad I am hearing a heartbeat out from under the hood. With those header extensions it has a tendency to wake you up. Thanks for the kudos-Jim
