Thought that was the Hustler...or am I thinking of someone else?

Edit: You were right it was the Sweet 1, but I could swear I saw a Corvette at their service station with The Hustler on in...might have been one they were working on.

We both have Candy red paint on our second 62 vettes, although My BBC is blown and injected, we both have drag racing these old cars in the 60/70s in our blood, we both think the same about these cars and we both are named Jim. Jim that cracks me up as well. Especially when our black cars run small blocks and our candy cars run big blocks (even though you got me on inches). I am sure we will meet up. Who knows maybe this year.-Jim

I really wish that will happen. Butch is not doing very well, but we all want to do some stuff, not pissed away like the last several years, before it is all done for good. A travel home would be in the mix, but only one or two cars could be with us.

On a brighter note, I am pushing for Woodward, but in the past, every one seems to back out as it gets close. I might get it done this year. Where are the HAMB drags??

I have never put the red 62 on this forum because it can also do corners, 1000 HP/ 2800lbs. Basically, one bad ass Hot Rod. If any cares to see it , let me know. Jim

Although I played hookey from work for awhile and trying to catch up, I thought I could post this neat old Corvette hot rod, before getting back to work. This is out of a magazine in 1967. The car was out of the Los Angeles area running a 427 big block. He adapted Airheart front discs which was pretty good stuff for 67. He had a vinyl top (a friend had a black vinyl top on his 61 in 1969). All the pics are black and white but the color is candy red with a candy gold stripe down the center and lower side panels. The hood is late model Stingray. Add some Firestones and Americans and it looks really great. Note the tape deck in the passenger area.

I would love to find this car as it is in the pics, although if I had to guess, I believe there is a better chance that it is now a numbers matching 62 with a wonderful story to boot.

Not a real fan of the flares but if I found it I would leave them. Back in the late 60s, there was a guy on my street with a 62 with a 427. Not a bad hot rod.-Jim

Thanks, Both cars are a blast to drive. My black car should break into the 10s this season, which is pretty fast for a true street car. The red car is so much faster. Pounds per HP, Black car 6.00, Red car 2.80. I can not even know how to describe it under full throttle. The idle sounds like a fuel car. The whole car shakes with each plug firing. I guess I over built it. The black car tops out at about 130.The red car would do an easy 200+ with a wing. The rear end lifts on 61/62 vettes starting at 130 mph. By 165 the rear tires are spinning so much it will not go any faster in 5th. Still have 6th gear to go.

Besides the straight line performance, it corners like a go cart.

The roll bar is not NHRA legal. I wanted easy access and convertible top access, so the back bars are too low and the side bar is also a little low. But I would bet my life on its strength.

My black car has a NHRA legal roll bar in it. I know what you mean about your sons. I would never let my 38 year old son drive the red car. Him driving the black car makes me nervous. Many a time on a loose track I have gone through the lights slightly sideways, 24" from the wall.

My first build on the red car looked like this, tube axle and all, 1967

Second build, 1975. A lot of changes over 47 years to now. But I kept the same tail lights.

I bought the EFI system from BDS in 1995. It uses a Bug Catcher hat, 16 35lb nozzle injectors and a FAST controller. Finding some one to program it can be a challenge. It took me 1 and 1/2 years to get it straighten out.
