Would this car have had a full interior, with both seats, door panels, etc.? Or would it have been gutted? Roll bar, cage?

The black car owned at this time by Ron Reader (1967-427 with a four speed) had a three point rollbar which was pretty common at the time. At the time this picture was taken it may have had two seats and may have had some basic door panels but it was pretty much a racecar at the time. I remember looking at the car numerous times but can't remember too much for certain on the interior. I may ask Ron Reader sometime more particulars as my memory has faded a tad. I do remember though when the next owner ran it without the top it was gutted with aluminum panels and only one seat. They ran a torqueflite in 68 and a clutch flite in 69. I remember they had an aluminum box with pushbuttons for the trans. Car always ran strong.-Jim

Looks like a great start. Looks like all the major pieces are there. Enjoy the build.
I just got my 57 to my shop this past week and have already started on it. Nothing like a new project to keep you busy !

PS here is the link to my build thread.

Nice 58 to start with Ohio Hot rods. The restorers have their share of 58s. There were many 58 hotrods and some of the drag cars removed the spears for good reason, and once they did they appeared remarkably similar to 59 and 60. Good to see others building hotrods from these early Vettes.

As to a 58 "gasser style" probably one of the most famous was Vicious Vette although it ran other classes.

Keep us posted on your build-Jim

Nice find. If you want to know how to race it and not destroy the drive train, ask. Jim

AHHH!, I just bought one yesterday. The guy said it was never raced and driven by a little old lady on Sundays.

He said that the only reason it was called a gasser is because she has a flatulence problem.

I wonder if mine is going to have smoke coming out from the wheels like all the ones in this post?

I realize it is pretty mild but here is a car that has been in our family since 76. It is the last thing my dad gave me before Cancer took him 10 years ago. I recently thought it was time to get it running again.

We got it running feeding gas down the carb as the Holley needs rebuilt and it needs a tank as this one is rusty.

Cool that your dad did that. Hope its never for sale. My Fairlane goes to my son when when I'm gone. It's in my will and the title is in both our names. Hope it makes him smile like you some day!

it will never be for sale as long as i live. It would be the last thing i would get rid of unless it meant keeping a roof over my families head.

Enloe the car looks great. Is it a 65? I am sure it will make a great father and son project with you as well. What are your plans?

Really like some of the cars that showed up at NH. What is the story on Caesars Ghost? Looks pretty cool.-Jim

Recently acquired. Wears a tow hook and faded Connecticut Drag Way Class winner decal. Have known the car for 40 years, used to be orange, then pearl blue and was painted green 35 years ago. Looking for the prior owner, Jim M. of Vernon to help fill in the gaps. Putting a set of trips on it in the spring.

Future the 61 looks great. Really like the stance and the hood scoop. Looks like a time warp, hope you keep the look. It would be a plus to find out its drag racing history.
