Jason I am curious as to the black 62 in the background above. She was a good racer for sure.

Here are a few pics of the Pancoe Yerger car. Fiberation is an early version. Then the one on the trailer is how it looks today. I believe the car will stay in some form of race trim. Thanks for the information and photos @jimdillon
Hopefully they do keep it in a race version. Earlier vintage wheels like the first picture would help the look in my opinion.

Regarding the black 62, here is a little better look at it.
    I see radiused, rear fenders
A sticker or stickers in the hardtop side window
    Five spoke wheels
    Traction Bars

Jason, I believe the present owner is going for the modified eliminator look with a small inch small block (70s). As much as I like the 60s look I also like Cragar Super Tricks. I have a set that came with the old 60 modified production chassis I bought and if I use them on a car I would probably polish them like Patterson did with his black 62 with a down stance. The HAMB is geared towards the 60s but I feel the modified eliminator cars deserve some love too. I see there are some Modified production groups and I appreciate their efforts to keep that spirit alive. As much as I really liked the 60s the 70s drag racing Corvettes with their high RPM launches are just as good, IMO. I still remember cringing standing along the fence at Milan in the 70s watching them launch.

As to the black 62, I am always looking for a picture of Mike Lenke's black 62 that he did so well with at the 62 Winternationals. Kushin and Owens also had a black 62 but the 62 above is neither IMO. Still a cool car. Looks like Traction Masters which were period correct. I have a set on my black car and a new set in the box. Not sure how great they work versus some of the bars that came afterward but they probably help a bit and have a cool factor. The Nicholson Wade 61 that won class at the 62 Winternationals still has the original Traction Masters on the car.

@jimdillon, I wasn’t aware that there were people that are bringing the Modified Production cars back and racing them. I have heard good things about that era too. I guess to me it would make sense if that was the era where the car was best known. Regardless it’s the owner’s decision but a high revving small block buzzing down the track like a bumble bee also sounds interesting.

Scotty that radical 59/60 corvette is at Dover Dragstrip. That 49/50 VW in background was a nailhead powered altered that was nicely done but didn't run that well.

Jason, there are a few old Vettes running in modified production vintage events today. I would not want to post them due to the wheels and scoops etc. Right now there there is the NDRL (Nostalgia Drag Racing League) Modified Production (pretty good schedule and would love to go to one of their events) and the Texas Nostalgia Modified Production and a new one that is starting up is Midwest Nostalgia Modified Production (out of Indiana I believe) and another that slips my mind (out of Iowa or Kansas??). Kyle Renfroe is running his uncle's old 62 in the NDRL that I watched run in modified eliminator back in the 70s. He pulls the wheels coming out of the hole pretty much every run. I could watch those guys run all day long.

@jimdillon, I checked it out and there are some cool ones in there. Especially the ones that have history to that era or are at least period correct.

A good friend of mine ran a 59 corvette M/P car out of Larned KS. Lynn Underwood. Ran INDY a few times and was a real hotrod. Anyone have a pic? Was chevy frost beige with Polished monoqoke(sp) wheels. Beautiful car. I think it was E/MP. Someone in Oklahoma built his engines, I think one was a 267 inch and the other was a 288 inch.

Posting a couple of photos of the Lenke Wade 1962 Corvette that won Street Eliminator at the 1962 Winternationals at the request of Jim Dillon. Note the traction masters on the car.

First is Earl Wade with Mike Lenke and the Street Eliminator trophy. It looks like holding this trophy is tough!

Thanks Bert. The story of the Lenke Corvette victory at the 62 Winternats is one of the top performance stories of any Corvette IMO. To be able to go head to head, no handicap, against a Supercharged Willys (Pittman and Edwards) and take the street eliminator crown with a "stock" Corvette is amazing. Would love to own the car.

Doug, as to the book it has been a bit of a PIA but the manuscript is done, the pictures have been edited and improved in some instances. I had to get permission for every photograph and some pictures I wanted to use I was not able to secure permission. Still waiting on a few photos that do not appear to be forthcoming. Such is life. Had to cut down on the length and the number of pictures (I had over 500). It looks like it will be maybe 230 pages (8 1/2 x 11) with 450 pictures if all goes well. Need to keep my cost reasonable as the publishers I had in mind did not go as planned. Working with a couple of friends/writers who are more knowledgeable on the ins and outs of publishing so thank goodness for that. They are going to help with the final layout but I am working on the layout I envisioned right now-mind numbing if the truth be told. Hopefully will get it in order and to a printer in the reasonably near future.

It's been said "if it was easy, everyone would be doing it", the book should be a big hit.
And that black Corvette is a beauty isn't it, like a big piece of black licorice!

Some great pics of the 60 Lemans team. Also I like the 62 for sale on bring a trailer. That 454 would be a lot of fun IMO.

Jim it's funny you mentioned that 62, I thought that if I bought it I would take the BB out sell it and put a SBC in it. I had all the BB's in a lot of different cars but my love is with the small blocks. One year at Hershey I found a pair of BB heads I needed, I had to make two trips across the field carrying one head at a time and making several rest stops. I swore off them that day lol.

I agree Pat that the iron heads are pretty heavy but aluminum are pretty reasonable. I liked both the small blocks and big blocks-both different animals. I like the way that my 327 winds up but the torque of the 427 BBC is pretty eye opening IMO.
