Can we see some more pictures of this one. You don't see Corvettes like this anymore. I would like to see a picture of the interior and under the hood too. I would also like to hear some stories about it. Very cool car

  5. The newest issue of Hot Rod has an article on a garage find 1963 Roadster drag car. Cars OK, the hood scoops pretty ugly though.

Tim McDonald was another Cleveland-area racer that enjoyed notable success in Modified Eliminator. Here his D/Modified Production C-1 Corvette hooks-up and leaves hard at the NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway, Columbus, Ohio. Tim built his own engines and cars, tuned, maintained and drove. (Jim Hill photo, Springnationals, Nat. Trail Raceway)

sorry Chevy fans this one is FORD powered

Norwin Palmer took a different approach with his C-2 Corvette. Running first in Gas classes, Palmer switched to D/Altered by merely changing his entry form! More unusual was his use of a 351-C Ford for power! (Jim Hill photo at Le Grandnationals, Sanair, P.Q., Canada)

Always looked forward to seeing Larry Kopp at the Springs in Columbus, in a hard charging 'Vette.

A buddy of mine crewed once or twice with Tim. His family owned a parts store/machine shop. Noted machinist Bob Hiner worked in their shop, who I believe did some work for Tim. I was thinking Tim might have been from Canton, not sure.

This was always one of my favorites. Nothing like screaming M/P cars with OPEN EXHAUST.

The late Crawford Benham was a much respected and beloved Modified racer from Corpus Christi, Texas. Benham’s career included an NHRA Nationals class win in G/Modified Production with a Camaro and his proven small-block Chevy combination.

Solid rear-axle, C-1, pre-Stingray Corvettes became the darling of Modified racers in the middle 1970’s due to their short wheelbase and aero advantages. The Kline-Mateer-Whitaker ’62 coupe found E/Modified Production to its liking with this wheels-up launch. Those are Cragar’s “Super Trick” lightweight aluminum wheels, favored by many Mod racers in the era.

Shepherd also drove the Reher-Morrison Modified Eliminator Corvette, drilling the ‘Tree and flawlessly shifting the five-speed manual transmissions. R-M-S became a world beating Pro-Stock power, but their roots were set early in Modified Eliminator. Those lightweight, spoked wheels were “Flys”, from Motor Wheel.

Loudbang good stuff. Although the super tricks are a bit OT here and at some nostalgia meets such as the Meltdown they are pretty good wheels. I have a set mounted and they are ridiculously light. Everytime you pick them up you can appreciate why they were so popular on these cars.

Yea it's hard to separate out the ones with new stuff I'm not cognizant of. In this case the site is for old gassers with almost all of them before 65 and the new stuff is obvious like 67 and up cars but if the body is old enough and nothing jumps out as new parts I know in they go.

We all appreciate your posts and as long as the cars "appear" to be from the era then I believe there is no harm no foul-no criticism from me-only appreciation. I just wanted to make a mention of the wheels but if I did then someone would instruct me that they are OT so I thought I would preface that point.

It's funny I download several hundred photos a week to post here then delete them while doing that I visit many many websites and that drives my PC nuts and it starts to slow down. So much data is added then removed so I have to give it a "tuneup" every sunday the whole thing clear the cache, delete cookies, files etc then defrag and it speeds back up.
