Ok guys, could use some help. My 56 customline and 302 are not playing nice together. Looking at some build photos and my photos, my mounts look like they could be a little closer together than original, but I cant tell for sure. My dad put a chevy motor in it 15 years ago, and maybe they were moved, but he said they were not.

I am hoping to find someone who would be able to meausre the distance between the mounts, just the bottom of one mount to the bottom of the other (straight across), and I can see if mine are the same or if they are closer together. I think the 54-56 should be the same, not sure about the 52-53 though.

    Thanks!

I might be able to help you, but I need to have more info...and photos, if possible.

What mounts are in the car now? Original or modified for the Chevy? Aftermarket mounts for an engine swap...?

If in doubt, just cut whatever is in there out and contact Jamco for one of their motor mount kits (link and part number: EC5456F) and have done with it.

Their stuff is very good and well worth the money. I'm using all Jamco stuff on my new '52 Victoria and am very pleased with them.

    Good luck! :)

Hey, here is some more details. My dad had owned this car since dating, and he put a 390 in it moons ago. then we restored it for me to drive in highschool and had a free chevy 307 and trans, so we put it in there. He said he never moved the mounts though, just made other mods for the motor to sit in there. So currently the factory mounts are still there, and "supposedly" in the stock inline 6 location.

Plates (about 3/8") were welded atop the factory mounts to allow for the chevy to fit. They were welded by a certified welder, and it was going to be a pain to get them off. So, a friend/fabricator just "prettied them up and slotted holes in the plates for me, to match the holes in the factory mounts. Some pics below

Here is what they looked like right after pulling the chebby. If you look closely at the p***enger mount, you can see the factory mount below the plate, through the hole.

Here is the mounts in current fashion. he trimed the plates up and welded them on better and added reinforcement and slotted the holes inline with the factory holes below the plates.

What I was wondering is, if someone could measure this and tell me what it should be

Hopefully this will help everything make more sense. thanks

Hey! Maybe this info will help. I just installed a 302/c4 in my 56 customline i used stock left and right motor mount from a 65/66 mustang that you can get from any auto part place. Then used 1.25 round tubing 5/16 thick or somewhere in the ballpark, cut to length 4" or so for both sides then dropped engine in (with front clip removed) set a level on top of engine and welded tubing in place. This raised my engine approx. 1.5 " so i can use my tri y headers.
