Picked up this great Oil pump core, Flathead Caddy. It's worth a few bucks.
Started s****ing the barnacles off and saw this.
    Sigh.

@Bird man I think I have an extra gear and shaft if you need one.

  4. While it's good to see someone messing around with a Flat cad motor, I need more info. Are you building a motor for something? Just asking because I have one in a running car and two on the floor. The two on the floor should be enough to come up with a complete motor with a good block left over. I'll still be short some parts like Flywheel, water pump, dist drive shaft and the tall housing that the shaft runs in and starter.

  5. They we likely nervous about the flux/braze br*** itself coming lose inside the engine

I have heard for years welding even Oxy-Fuel welding the pick up in a Small Block Chevy oil pump and not brazing for fear of it or the flux coming lose.

get out your die grinder and a cutoff wheel....
tedious but doable to work your way through that goober and miss the shaft

I want more detail. What was done and why? I'm not totally hip to flat cad oil pumps.

If my Dad had done it you’d be happy. He loved brazing over welding.

Now I have Barbra Streisand echoing between my ears, Mem'ries…

"get out your die grinder and a cutoff wheel..." Def thought of that.
"What was done and why?"- Thought of posting in one picture worth a thousand words.
They didn't want the coupler to come loose & the welder got rather impressive penetration!
The gears look quite good, wonder if the core is worth saving...

Reminds me of a time a while back dumping some iron at the afterhours "donation" dumpster at the s**** dealer; saw four flathead Caddy mills in there; seemed a shame.

I think what you have is the long geared one with the short shaft. Let me know which one you have for sure and I'll get it shipped to you. Caddy Pump Gears.jpg
