I've been chomping at the bit for two days dying to share what might be my GREAT find, just waiting for techweek to end. Maybe we can call this a TECH REQUEST.
Backstory: I asked a coworker months ago if he knew of any old tin up where he's from, and he seemed to recall some old car out behind his parent's property that was totally wasted. He didn't remember details but promised to go see if anything was left. Well, two days ago he comes back and apologizes, it wasn't an old car it was 9 or 10 of them! He brought some pictures, and he was right, these cars are pretty far gone, but one picture in particular almost made me fall out of my chair.
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but I just want to let everyone know, he says the guy that dragged the cars out there is long gone, and that he thinks the land belongs to his granddaughter but will find out for sure. Might be able to "clean up" this stuff for FREE. Crossing my fingers, had to share.
Hey, is that a 53 Desoto on it's side?
[IMG][/IMG]
I'm going to get a little closer and turn my head 90 degrees...
[IMG][/IMG]
... and rub my eyes because I think I'm going to pass the fuck out.
[IMG][/IMG]
Holy Shit. A 276 Firedome ... that I might be able to pickup for the price of gas and elbow grease.
So here's my tech request: How would YOU go about getting a HEMI out of a car turned on it's side and "at least 50 yards" from where I could park a truck?
My thoughts at the moment: comealong the car out far enough to put down where it belongs, cut the whole front half off, throw some rims on there and pull the whole front end out and onto the trailer and worry about pulling the motor and grille when I get home.
Your advice would be appreciated. Can also post more pics of some other goodies out there, including a ford p/u that looks like it's be a neat project.:D

Get a friend with a flatbed towtruck and a long winch cable.
and some beer. Looks like a fun time!

My 53 says hi. I could use a new steering wheel if it's in good condition.

I dont know how it is in yer neck of the woods, But about every kid here has a monster 4x4....

I would hire one of them with a winch on there truck & a car trailer and go get them thing one at a time and bring them out whole.

By the time you stripped them of all the good parts, Sold the hulks for scrap, Sold the parts you dont need & paid the kid for his gas & time you would be way ahead.

The other car there looks like a DeSoto also, And them bumbers are good items for Kustom Merc application... Be sure & get them also.

Hell, the grill even looks good (all there at least).

How about a winch for your trailer? Ours (winch) just finally quit so I am looking into one and the new ones with the composite line (spectra, kevlar, whatever) seem to have inordinately long lines (longer than any 4-10K Lb winch I have ever come across with a steel line anyway). Bring a friend (or beer to gather help) and roll it flat, so it will go on the trailer and drag it up on the deck. If you could scare up some tires and wheels that would fit, it would be easier (obvious I know).

Hope that helps.

Hook on to it with a 4 wheel drive or a winch truck and drag it out.

Thanks for the tips - if this works out, I'm going to have to be delicate (not destroy my friend's parent's yard etc.) and it might take a few trips, which is a drag because it's a few hours away. I shouldn't bitch about FREE though. My fingers are crossed so hard they hurt.
Here are some more pics, and apparently this isn't all of them and my frined didn't really explore as he is not a car guy at all.
Any help identifying anything else that might pop out at you?

I've seen guys get stuff like that out with a saucer sled, some rope, and a riding mower. It works! Just keep enough weight on the back of the mower, and keep it in 1st gear!

the taillight housing half buried is CADDILAC.

and (if you count your pics from top to bottom)
the underhood region of the plymouth in photo number 9 should be examined as well...you may be sitting on a pair!

say, does anyone happen to know the wheel bolt pattern for a 53 Desoto?

17. The truck is 48-50 ford. The wheels, flathead, tranny, and steering box are hotrod material.

if the trim is still on the back window of the caddy, I need it-in particular, the "connector" peices along the bottom-and no, I don't care how mangled they are.:D

stranger shit has happened.

I know where 3 wrecked ferrari's are in a storage unit in Fla-and you could build 2 complete cars out of them.

21. I think that I'd take the time and remove the Grille before I winched it.

I'd hate myself if I cobbled up the grille teeth.

nice score man! hope it works out for you...

the desoto and the for pickup are definitely good rod/kustom material.

you could probably also score alot of good trim and hood ornaments etc. you could probably ebay alot of the stuff too. maybe offer to help them part the rest out and sell the leftovers for scrap?

oh yeah, and dont forget your sawzall. cordless? or maybe a gas generator so you could take power tools.

If I remember right: Same as all full size mopar, same as later Ford, 5 X 4 1/2 in. Uses bolts, not lugs. Left hand threads on drivers side.

I'm sure it snows pretty good there. Pull what you want now, get some snow machines and some good size sleds. then i figure you can take out what you want without damaging the land.

Your sled is right there...remove Desoto Hood, set it upside down, drop engine onto it. Streamlined sledge free with every motor!

As far out in the sticks as that looks, there's got to be a backhoe closeby. It would be worth a few bucks not to get hurt. Good luck.
