ElP. If you get your little rig figured out, I could be in some very deep shit... This might be your year for the title.. -Abone.
I feel dizzy after reading that.....way over my head. Does Harold Brookshire play with turbo stuff? I know he is the guy when it comes to camshafts, I just dont know if he knows the turbo side. Also Chris straub might be a resource.
Glen, I need to talk to some cam guys. Eric over at Chuck's is trying to get me to talk to Chris over at Comp. I still need to talk to Bob at Cam Motion (the current cam) but it would help to get some others in on it and see if we can get a consensus of what I really need. I think I need a bit more durration on the exhaust and may have to sneak a few more degrees of overlap back in. Monday then. Jeff, even if you get to see what my tail lights look like you are still the king!
Here is their info in case you want to call them. You know who Harold is right? Chris Straub: http://www.straubtechnologies.com/customcams.htm Haold Brookshire: 662-562-4933
Root, funny! I drove it home last night and taking it out on the Sinners Primer Run this morning. It rund pretty good but the window of boost is just too narrow to be fun. Monday I will give Cam Motion a chance to make this right, I paid a lot for them to design it and build it. They should have known better.
Performed pretty poorly, fuel mileage went to shit. But today, got three degrees of advance in the cam and did this:
did a little tuning today.....just rolled the car on the dyno thru the gear shifting at 5-6k, let it heat cycle and stretch its legs a little. At the end of the video I run it up to 4k in 2nd gear and mashed the throttle, it instantly went to 7k rpm. <object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6012590&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6012590&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><p>505 BBC solid roller 7k RPM from Hot Rod Glen on Vimeo.</p> this was earlier setting the total advance. <object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6010176&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6010176&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><p>Timing the new 505 from Hot Rod Glen on Vimeo.</p>
I had the speakers turned up and it scared the crap out of me when you goosed it there at the end... hahaha!!! On another note, I just booked my room, so I guess I'm coming!
Not accurate numbers, Charles was watching fuel mixture when I made that little run and we didnt record it....I didnt plan on making a heavy lugging dyno pull because it is so fresh. At the end of the day we decided to make a soft pull. Charles let off at around 6100 RPM rpm with 497 horsepower and the curve was still going up when he let off. The torque number is bacwards because he rolled it up soft, even at that it shows 422 ft. lbs of torque at 6100 RPM, if he would have nailed it at 5K we would have a more accurate number. This is that pull: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5lRDL51iYVE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5lRDL51iYVE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> The 4.86 gear really kills dyno numbers so you have to factor that in....but I think its pretty safe to say we are around 680-700 at the crank. One comment about Pro Systems carbs......This carb was spot on right out of the box, We adjusted the idle mixture a little and ran it. looking at A/F ratio I might go up one jet size just to be on the safe side
Glen. Looking back..now can you tell why the old combination quit at 6K? The motor sounds bitchn. -Abone.
Absolutely....My old motor had a hydraulic flat tappet camshaft and it was just giving up the ghost by that point. Thats my lack of experience... Add in the slow ramp rate of a Hyd. cam and the valve float above 6k and it was never going to happen. I knew i was going to switch to a solid roller, I just decided to build a motor that I can put into a full chassis car later. My 396 shortblock is in the bag for now and will go back in this car later with a roller cam and more compression.
Glen, I see the reason you didn't need those fuel pumps. They would have been good to fire it up but useless after that. They will be put to good use on my daily BBC pu. Well, at least one of them will. Frank
I put a holley black pump on this with 1/2" fuel line and it still drops the psi gauge at the carb to 5 psi when its in it
Look out ! That thing is even more bad ass now, sounds like your happy with the new combo and serious about getting where you want to be on the track.
little stuff always sneaks up.....I put my stud girdle on today and my valve covers touched the polylocks. I thought about turning the end of the polylock down in the lathe to gain clearance but I realized I could double gasket the valve cover. $20 later were fixed. for safety I also put a blanket on the trans when the motor was out.
It runs, so far so good. My dyno guy may even open up his shop tomorrow for a little tuning. If you have a Facebook account, you can see the video of the fireup. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/video/video.php?v=1104398051268&ref=nf
Is it just me or does it seem like everyone is turning the wick up a little this year? The texas boys are dyno tuning, your turning yours up a little?
I just want to get there and back without breaking, crashing or getting a ticket. All of which has happened in the last 2 weeks.
Working right up to the last minute. We made these panels today for the back of the sedan....it looked kind of shitty before. We are loaded up and ready to go. See you guys there. Ryan begged us to bring the mullet corvette, but I told him no. (no its not mine)
