Returning to it this morning, I found I have a new feline foreman already on-site... He even looked at me steadily while I got the camera out and ready.

    Humboldt Cat,
so is the forman the real Humboldt Cat?

my damage was done while holding the loud pedal close to the floor for about fifteen minutes while terrorizing the neigborhood.

if you have not fired your motor, just get the water out of there before you do.

you did drain the block before you pulled the heads didn't you?

I got my headlights and headlight bar done -- rattle can black lacquer that rubbed out pretty nice. Went ahead and mocked up the front end to see how it all looked. I don't think I like that spreader bar. It was a freebie, but it looks a little heavy

I got a couple pounds of rusty crud out of the water jackets on my 59A and a bunch done cleaning up the intake ports. Finished cleaning my 8BA rods for it, too. Lots of piddly*****, too. Good weekend. Wayno

  5. Took the roadster out for its first hunnert mile run since we got the interior finished. Seat sure feels a whole lot better than the old Tijuana Special that I ripped out. Ran into rain down by Conway and discovered some interesting facts about driving an open car in wet weather. 1st, the backside of the windshield gets as wet the front. 2nd, a fenderless car puts up enough spray that you can't see very well to the side. And 3rd, look up over the windshield and you can pick out individual rain drops heading your way. Kind of like the old "Golden BB". Right between the lookers!

    It was fun, anyway.

I didn't pull the heads, just the 2 barrel intake for access to the lifters (it's an FE motor) and pushrods, which were the heart of the problem (heads were pulled and rebuilt a few years ago), replaced the intake with a 4 barrel. Will let y'all know the results.

there will be water in the intake maifold and top of the heads, when you crack the intake loose, unless you have a separate valley pan the water will surely end up in the crank case.

I always pull the plugs on both sides of the block and open the petcock and cap on the radiator to get all the water out.

'course this time I may as well have just run a garden hose in there after I put it back together [IMG]
