My biggest concern is dropping a hundred bux only to find out that they are too long to mount in that 3" space behind the cab.
The stock hinge is very simple as well as being hidden. Fairly sure you can get the plate etc. from Brookville and other vendors although it would be easy to make at home. Latch is a small aftermarket Bear Claw type. I've seen similar latches on Explorers and Ford Vans at the junkyard. Most of them come with electric release which is nice. The release cable shown here is fairly heavy duty. Dad got it at a diesel supply house for me. Very smooth operating. This pic shows the backup plate which helps to center the latch inside the sheet metal. Shown on the outside here, but it goes inside. Shown here, a Taurus station wagon rear hatch gas lift. It needs a device or remount because it gains speed as it opens so if you don't watch it the upper bracket will be torn out of the lid sheet metal. The bracket in the pic has many holes to figure out the ratio/mounting area for upper pivot. There is a single hole, smaller bracket that will replace it. You only need one of these cuz they're strong and the Model A lid is light....
I just bought a set of TR3 bonnet hinges off ebay. I'll keep you posted on how they fit and if they fit.
COME ON Somebody post some pictures and install of some late 40's hinges or some TR3's or something I know they are out there!
