Just for fun I contacted someone I do know with at Source 1 Media (SR & R&C owners) about republishing the old series by Bud Bryan on building a traditional flathead powered 29 highboy and was told they never repeat stories as readers would be bored. I said "hell" that was almost 40 years ago and a large share of those readers are gone or quit the hobby. But I hit a dead end. What a shame, that series is so on the money with what is happening today. A younger generation denied!

great stuff! Those cars define what this is all about. And a lot of us owe a debt of gratitude to Bud Bryan for his great work with Rod & Custom in the late 60's and early 70's. He did a lot to keep hot rodding in its traditional form alive - remember that A roadster on 32 rails he built?

Could not agree more, those articles on the 29 were looked forward to each month. Rod and Custom was full of great cars and interesting articles. I have looked at them many times and remember well the one on Jake and his 3 34 coupes. Reprinting those would be informative and educational for the younger rodders.

Put in another vote for repeating the articles Bud wrote on building his hiboy. If they reprinted them they would be instant collectibles and no matter how many they printed they would sell out. I'd take a few copies myself. My old ones have been taped back together several times.

That row of houses are zoned commercial and there is a parking structure across the street.. The reason that we took those shots there is that Bud's daughter in law owns the store that we are in front of...

I'd be tough to duplicate now though. As I recall, he started with a brand new, still coated in cosmoline, 59A block.
Great series of articles, I think I still have 'em all, have to dig them out for a reread.

Update! In my previous post I said Bud was building a boat tail speedster. He called last week and plans have changed as he has decided to build a more ole timey RPU. Is getting it ready to take to Dale Caulfield to have some finish work done in preparation for a possible summer or late summer debut? I'm sure he will jump in as soon as he gets a puter.
