    What do you guys think.

anyone know how thick a transmission crossmember rubber mount needs to really be .....
I bought GM universal MT5000 mount like this

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/MT-5000-GM-...-/201522422559

But finding the CPP crossmember is only like 1/4 inch under the mount of the tailshaft. So thinking the best way to adapt is with a real thin square rubber plate sitting over the X-member steel support. But not sure if thats ok ?

basically the 2 configurations without getting way more creative

Option 1 - mounts hung inside of frame as I think intended/designed for clearance of exhaust underneath. Almost 0 clearance to mount a trans mount. Could only think to get ike a 1/4" real thick rubber matt cut to square to match the mount pad on the xmember.

option 2 - hung off below the rails. Gives too much vertical but maybe could be bridged with a spacer on bolt. probably means exhuast may have to go over TOP of xmember.

raise the engine mounts an inch or two....???? It looks like it's all sitting rather low.

Transmission is about as high as it can go without doing tunnel work.

Engine oil pan is higher than the front xmember.

starting to think your right though.

I raised the transmisison 2 " .... and it only slightly throws my ~3.5 degrees out ..... so will raise the front and determine. Think I can just bend the existing trans tunnel cover enough that it will be ok once I seal over the top of it with sounds matts etc. Worst case seal from underside a little with rubber/flexible sealant also.

The trans mount doesn't have to or need to sit atop the crossmember, but can sit on a gusseted plate mounted anywhere on the front of the tube, with a cross section something like this (gusset omitted) _o, or -o. Would mean moving the crossmember rearward a little but that shouldn't be an issue. Solid or near solid mounting comes with it's own problems and is probably best avoided, but opinions will vary.

  7. The cover should be easy to reshape.

This is the best way with that new hoop hanging so low, but I would still raise that trans/engine like you now plan, because the trans pan looks too low as far as impacts.

    This^^^^^^^
And don't waste your money on those cheap Korean made rubber transmission mounts, spend a little more for a urethane mount from Energy Suspension, they actually make them in two thicknesses.
If you are concerned about exhaust clearance you can modify the crossmember easy enough. I built this one one for my Nova as it sits fairly low.

    thanks guys.

thinking going to raise engine just a bit ..... plus cut and reweled the supporting tube lower to give me the clearance I need. Pic attached.

Anything bad with raising the engine higher outside of

    1) Hood clearance
    2) Trans tunnel clearance ?

  11. I don't know what your working on and maybe it's just camera angle but in this photo
[IMG] Your A Frames look to not have vehicle weight on them and sighting across the Trans oil pan bottom to the right front wheel I'd be a little concerned about Scrub Line. You might want to look into that.

Cut the trans mounting pad off the cross member and turn it over and reweld.

Thanks -- yes the trans is partially supported here just so I could get the XMEMBER in to get a feel for what it would look like - so full weight not there. I did raise the engine and trans approx 1-2" more ...... so scrub line lokos great now - thanks for tip.

This ^^ was my option two - dropping the mounting pad 1.5" .
Decided to cut the TAB off and relocate ....... seems to be fine on mockup ...... so far.

Dealing with birdsnests all of a sudden ..... no idea why

I flipped mine on my 56 (avatar) for an other reason. This is how I know it works and you can go even lower (higher) if you get creative.

It shouldn't be hard to figure out but if I could help it I wouldn't want either engine or trans pan hanging lower than the bottom of the front crossmember. Speed bumps love to catch them if they are too low.

  16. That's real good advice right there.
