To Flatheaders everywhere.....I feel compelled to report I got my 8RT block back from the machine shop and they failed to find (2) cracks down along the pan rail. They said they Mag-Fluxed it! Anyway the Good News is....I took a chance and Arc Weled them using the follwing procedures: #1:Clean area thoroughly.(I used brake cleaner)#2 Drill 1/8" holes at the ends of the cracks.(I used a magnifying gls to locate the ends) #3 Use a Dremel tool and bevel out the crack about half way through. #4 Clean again. #5 Preheat the area all around the area to be welded to 400 degrees(I used a "Temp-Stick" crayon)......when ready, Weld the crack using 3/32" Ni-Fe,Ci electrode AC. #6 Immediately Peen the weld.(I used a Needle Gun) #7 Keep the area warm in the 350-500 degree range for 15-30 minutes. Repeat until welding is done. #8 Wrap entire block with insulation and cover with a blanket to hold heat in. #9 Place an electric heater undrneath to keep warm and allow to cool as slowly as possible. I had outstanding results ad I am very happy with the results! I hope this helps someone else manage to save their block from winding up in the s**** pile as they are becoming more and more scarce every day......................."Remember the Rumble"!!!!!!!!!!!Good Luck & Happy Holidays!
