Just bought a 51 Ford F1 but the engine had a cracked block (don't know hoe bad it is but the previous owner was going to replace it).

    1) Depending on how bad it is, can it be welded?
    2) If it is too bad, where would be a good place to get a replacement block and parts?
    3) Have been offered a French flathead V8 which is new and running, but am I right in understanding that the rear of the engine is more like a 59A and won't fit onto the 51 F1 gearbox?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, it's just Fords ain't my speciality!

    Many thanks,

    Ashley

What engine does it have in it? 226?
    Where's the crack?

The 59A type rear block area should fit fine--the original engine uses a special bellhousing that converts it to the early Ford pattern!
