I have a crankshaft that has the number cast on it 3932442. That is supposed to be a 350 crank, but the rear flange looks like a 400 design. What am I looking at?

    Could be a 350, a 305, or a 267. All the same number. Lippy

Did you check the stroke before asking?

    400 - 3.75"
    350 - 3.48"

That is the question. How can a crankshaft have a 350 number with a 400 flange?

The diagram shows the 400 flange being more square on the weighted side. The only difference between the diagram of the 350 and the flange you have, is the small notch. Which could be how your crank was balanced.

  10. That’s a good point,,,,,after squinting my eyes and looking closer at the pic,,,,I’m not sure anymore.
Measure the stroke like someone suggested earlier,,,,,about a quarter inch difference .
Should be easy to check .

This is an assembled engine I got with a project. I was told it was a stroker with a 400 crankshaft. 350 engine verified. It has an internal balanced balancer on it but no flexplate. I pulled the pan to see if I could tell if it is internally balanced. That's when I saw the 350 cast number 20210616_150924.jpg

  12. You can take calipers and check the stroke from the bottom while the pan is off .
Use the rod that’s in the calipers,,,it should be close enough ?

here's a pic of a similar crank on ebay,, same number, it's advertised as a 350 crankshaft.

    The notch is there....
