There is a certain pleasure in rebuilding your own engine, or transmission, or doing your own bodywork/paint, etc, etc. I know you can probably buy a crate motor cheaper, but what fun is that? If you aren't confident of your skills, maybe this is the time to hone them. Hotrodding used to be about doing it yourself, even if things didn't always turn out perfect, you owned it. I like that.

I have both in my cars. I had a 65 Corvette motor rebuilt for personal reasons as it was my first car out of college and I wanted that 327/350 HP motor in my hot rod. I purchased a second Edelbrock Signature series 460/460 for the delivery and I love it also. The choice is yours as mentioned above. Money is always in the way of personal feelings but I truly like the fact that I put my 327 together and it is still doing fine.

:) My thoughts on the matter is this.Support your local business. They will really appreciate it.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

I agree 100%....I have bought two crate engines in the past. The first one (LS6 454) was from a GM dealer and the second (stout SBC) from a reputable builder. I was lucky...both of the engines were as advertised.

However, I recently had a BBC rebuilt by a machine shop that has a reputation for quality work. That engine too, was IMHO better than average. Supporting your local business is very important in this day and age when outsourcing and m*** production is the norm.

My next engine will be a rebuild from the guys down the street.
