This post was originally intended to be a reply to StevesGalaxie's post: "As if you needed more pics of Billetproof", (so go there for photos of the hood ornament and trunk lid described in this post) but I decided that it was time that this car got some HAMB exposure, so... The skull was cast by a guy named Fred Saunders. Owns a metal sculpture shop in Seaside, CA. (Monterey area) Fred was warned that the Hell's Angels might take offense to the skull's similarity to their logo, so he decided to never use it and gave it to Paul, who owns the car it sits on now. The really intersting stuff about the car whose hood that skull sits on is the junkyard engineering that went into it. It started life as a 38 Dodge, rusted to hell. Still sits on the stock frame, but the list of modifications include: -Front and rear suspension, steering, third member and brakes from a 1993 Toyota Supra -Chrysler 440(estimated 500hp)set back into the firewall afew inches(the rear 2 cylinders are behind the stock firewall, with a new firewall fabricated behind the motor) with a Mopar 4 speed overdrive ******. -ALL of the engine accessories, and I mean ALL of them are hidden under the Queensryche(my least favorite part of the car) trunk lid. That includes the radiator, mounted at about a 45 degree angle, out of a 90's Buick. The alternator, belt driven off the drive shaft, so I guess it only charges when it's moving. and of course the gas tank and battery. So the only thing you see up front is the motor. Obviously the trunk has no floor. -Full roll cage and I believe 5 point harnsesses inside. -Basically, it's a 500hp, 1500 pound car that handles like a 93 Toyota Supra, but looks like a rat 38 Mopar sectioned about 8 inches over the frame because it was so rusty in the rockers. Some photos of the build posted by Paul's 14 year old neighbor: http://www.geocities.com/fwg002/Paul_440/rat_rod.html Enjoy.
your link doesn't work, but i know the car you're talking about.cars built after '34 or so just don't look right w/out fenders IMHO.
I don't see a gas "tank" I see a gas can and I'm hoping that this is only temporary for build up (still unsafe for this even) and not driven till a proper one is installed. Looks like a tragedy waiting to happen
Yorgatron, the link was working for me, and obviously Denise was able to see the pics... Maybe try again. As for the fenders, I guess to each his own, but the car didn't have any when he got it. He used to run it without a hood too, which I preferred, but think it looks pretty rad either way. Denise, the gas can was just for the build up. He eventually scavenged a tank out(as well as all of his steering linkage) out of an old Post Office Jeep... As for the safety of the car, I'd say he's got it together now, but during the build I scrawled "Unsafe at any speed" on his roof in large capital letters just above the driver's door to remind him what he was doing when he used to take it around the block for test runs...
<font color="purple"> It's a Yahoo site, they only allow so many hits then it is down for a while. I saw it earlier, but now it is temp. unavail..... Try again later. </font>
ive seen pics, and heard enough of the car to know it's not gonna fall into the "tradiotional" definition that so many hold tightly to... but it is TRUE damn hot rodding... very well executed junkyard engineering, bad*** car, fun, fast, and HANDLES... and com'on... it's got a 500hp row-your-own big block...
Hell, if he was going that far with the Supra stuff, he shoulda gone all the way and slapped that turbo 6 the 93 had in there. Those things can make insane power!! I've seen videos of one from here in Austin whooping a modded Hayabusa that I have personally seen run a 9.0@152 down in Seguin!!! There's 3-4 of em here in Austin with 800+ RWHP!! </import bs chat> sorry, got off track there, but man those Poopras can be impressive!
Scotth, you gotta remember that this car was built with junkyard parts. Junked Supras lose their turbos pretty quickly... and are probably pretty difficult to pull 800 horses out of. I've heard of turbo'd and nitrous'd Supras pulling 1000 horse power, so they are definitely a car/engine that can be made to scream... BUT, he had the 440 already built and waiting for a project anyways... Not to mention that a 60's 440 is a **** ton easier to put in a rod than a 90's anything. No electronics. No ******** smog. Alot less headaches.
yeah, they aren't cheap! I can't wait to see it, every time I try to load it up, it's broken... I'll keep trying.

Looks like a old style Modified Stock car. Definetely Junk Yard Engineering at its best. Must be a real kick to drive.

I just might have to do it someday...
