Could be but I'm reminded of the fan-guard on a big 'ol box fan.

And the windshield--English origin? MG? Healey? I think it needs some more tinkering, but is a neat idea.

That's cool. I started making one for my International shell last night, but the hurricane is slowing down my progress today.

Is that stainless rod? What diameter, 3/16" or 1/4"? Thanks.

  10. That is 1/4" cold rolled. It came out OK. I made a jig but would make a better jig the next time.

That first one looks like a fan cage.

I'm not impressed. The windshield doesn't fit either.

if you have read the eBay descript... i wonder what was actually done "in the 50's"? i agree it does look like a box fan... but in those old salt flat pics i've seen it look like they have cardboard on their grilles... 'cause that's what it is. i've never been a big fan (no pun intended) of the spider web grille anyway... but i would say it is a pretty good low buck alternative. imho

  14. I agree Warpigg, the idea is cool the implementation is a little lame.

Thanks for the kind words on mine, it is decent but not perfect, I call it a learning experience. I know what to do now!!!!! And yes, 59-62 was the time frame I wanted.

wow you guys are sure critical of other peoples cars. I think it is a low buck idea that works?? Does it not.The car was built in the 50's. But i guess you cant believe that since you guys are true hot rod era specialist huh.

I'm that critical of my own project too.

Does it work? Not for me. That's just my $.02 though but if the owner/builder likes it, that is really all that matters anyway.

I'm no expert on anything. Never claimed to be. I do know that if I believe a car looks like shit, then I think it looks like shit - being built in the '50's doesn't excuse it from looking like shit either. This goes for any car - not necessarily the one above (that I believe could be pretty neat with a little work.)

I always liked the web inserts because it seemed like a personal, homemade touch to the car. They can be art, and so that one misses the whole idea to me.

To prove I'm no expert but willing to learn... When did spiderweb grilles become popular?

I always thought it was an early 1960's trick - not something you would have seen in the 1950's.
