As others have said, put the 39 inside, and the Dodge outside. it's got a heater and a defroster.

  2. Yup. It would be OK outside. My wife's 2006 Mazda that we bought new has never spent a single night inside and it's in just fine.

My 55 is sitting in my back yard and there is only one way into the backyard and thats through my garage! The inspecter came by and said get rid of that pos derby car or else we will tow it. I told him unless your planning to get a damn shanook helicopter and airlift it out Its staying but I would like to see you try to tow it out! So far its been a few weeks and havent heard from em yet. My friend took a giant camping tent and set it up in his front yard and parked his toyota trail truck in it. So far the city hasnt questioned why a giant tent has been set up for 2 years. ;)

I don't know how fast your city is but my dad has been hounded countless times for having "Junk" vehicles around his property but by the time they come to enforce the code the vehicles have moved on or are inside.

Also my old man is famous for taking a drive around town and snapping a few pictures of yards that are a mess with junk cars on them. Then when a code enforcement person stops in to give him a hard time he hands over the pictures and tells him to "have a nice day!":D

    Park the daily outside.

I like your idea of using the patio area. Use some type of shading material so nobody can see the car.

There's been other posts on this subject of "hiding a project car from enforcement officers".
I recall one guy using an above ground pool with a plasic solar cover over it. From the air, it looked like a covered pool, but there was a car inside.
Trouble is that they'd probably bust you for building a pool w/o a building permit.
Another guy placed the car against a backyard fence, stacked a row of firewood around the car, then added a tarp over the top.

In my area, 120 square feet is the limit for sheds-otherwise you need a building permit. You might just be able to squeeze a small car in a 8'x15' shed.

Build a small greenhouse in the back yard and place the car inside. Tell the nosy neighbors you're growing tomatoes and orchids.

But then the neighbors might get su****ious when your goin in and out of the greenhouse. Then they might call the cops cause they think your growin pot! :D

The compliance officer put a stick behind my wheel and was writing me up when it was still there two weeks later, so I started it up and drove it around the block. Then I built a 6ft gate on my side drive and posted a no tressp***ing sign and parked the truck behind it.

in my case, it was the neighbor calling me in, not a vendetta by the compliance officer. invite your neighbors over for some barbeque.

the coupe i bought off fleabay for 600 bux it was a old dirt track car from the 50's say's the seller. its in real rough shape, its just the body. its staying out side. my magnum is not a daily driver its a r/t that has some slight mods from the original owner and has 36,**x miles on it, ive owned it for 1 yr and put about 4,**x miles on mainly going to car shows and long haul trips that my or her daily driver wount make due to not being very reliable. i want to keep this car in nice shape to further build upon and see where its collectibilty goes.

the coupe was an impulse buy...............damn addictions. i am going to ask my mechanic buddy if i can keep my truck at his shop and he can get my business on working on it when i have the extra cash to spend on it. last year i spent about 1,700 bux on the truck and cant send it to the junk yard i'm too far into it for that. my tbird i got out of a storage unit that ive been renting the last 3yrs...its been sitting for allmost 6 yrs total. ive owned this car for 12 yrs now and am the 2nd owner of that one too much attachment to that car plus its still a nice car.

So the cops show up, take a look, then say "well it was a greenhouse at one time. Now there's just an old car stored in there. Big deal-lets go"!

You're supposed to go in and out of a greenhouse! But you'd have no reason to, unless you were trying to make it look legit.

They'd get su****ious if you never went in there---they might think you were storing an old car in there.
To make it look really legit, occasionally hand a couple of choice tomatoes over the fence to them. Just make sure you remember to peel the supermarket code stickers off them.

My cab over sits in plain sight in the driveway, my new 1949 1/2 ton chevy sits next to that, my pontiac sits in the garage, and my 1947 1/2 ton is in the street right behind the coe and the 1949. I would park in the drive but i have to compromise with the wife and leave her room to park her car.

  13. I never thought I would say this "Glad I live in California!"

If it doesnt have current tags then it cant be on the street, thats understandable but to get around that law I just put my roller on a car hauler/trailer and park that on the street .... no problemo!!!

I would think a magnum RT in mint condition with low miles would be worth just about half of what you paid for it IF you wait about 40 years

Check the laws, around here they say stuff has to be "covered" so a blue tarp work, looks worse, but legal....

California, small town in the central valley. We were going to buy the house we were leasing, but some City Planning dip**** came by and jacked me for having a '54 Ford Coupe in my driveway.
This ***bite is a member of the 'Merced Street Racers', an old fart of 50+, the older brother of a neighbor of mine, a 'respected Camaro Pilot'. City fart drove a nice '36 Coupe, but lacked hot rod etiquette.
I had to prove the Ford ran, and moved it (get this!) to a position in front of the garage door (sideways!) then to the left side, (pointed out) then to the right side...(pointed in).
The old fart kept coming by to har*** me, until his brother told me they were all moving to Kansas...(1994)
The Merced Street Racers were having a big 'runoff' out in the country, near the county refuse site...my son Rich and I drove his '65 Mustang out and blew the doors off the Camaro in a 3 out of 3 heads up... (5.0 roller engine)
The following Sunday, we were moving into our new home out in the county...
We took a break, and went to breakfast at Brooks Ranch, and I ran into this jerk coming out of the door...
He said he heard I 'got smart and moved outside the city limits'.
I waltzed him around, and gave him a right that laid him out flat. Nice clean punch.
I was 6 years his senior, so it was 'fair'. And it felt better than ***. (usually does)

The illicit-drug parallel is more apt than one might think: there is an effort going on to the end of "culturally criminalizing" old-car activities.

Forgive the political angle, but the more people get there heads around this way of thinking, the more people realize that zoning is about maintaining an oligopsonistic labour market by suppressing the possibilities for home-based economic activity, the more people realize that it is they themselves who are getting screwed by that, the less the old "residential character" argument is going to hold water.

There are many reasons why quitting your job tomorrow morning isn't a real, practical option: zoning is one of them.

Store it in the back of your old truck -"Camper Special".

A small enclosed or open trailer would be easy to move.

Put a slide on the front- kids playhouse...

  30. Get one of those tarps made for a portable duck blind and stick some gr*** and corn stalks out of it. :D

I always just tell 'em to take me to court here and reminde them tof how much it is going to cost them by the time we get to the state supreme court and all the publicity. Probably won't work for you but it always works for me.
