  8. pwschuh,

Yeah, I agree that the construction screams rat rod, but the show card in the window said "Traditional Hot Rod", so I put that in the caption. I posted one last year that I labeled rat rod and the owner and his friends were offened becuase is was a traditional hot rod. I'll probably never find a way to get this right for everyone.

This rod was right in front of my booth and featured some nice work and clever engineering. It drew a lot of attention, which I appreciated since that brought more folks in the the artist area. It was the only rat in the show, from what I saw.

Well, with a big block for power, oversized low profile tires and billet wheels...that thing sure as hell is NOT traditional...patina does not make a 'trad' rod any more than flat black paint makes anything else 'trad'.

Thanx for the pix Ed, ya beat me to it...

This car was awesome until you go to the back and saw the huge airbrushed mural painted on it.

It is Nea'ls car. Not a lot left of the one that rolled. The frame and motor are about all that were saved. I helped Zipper with a quite a bit of the build, large chunk of the exhaust was welded by me (yeah, happy to have a chance to blow my own horn).
Its hands down my favorite car I helped zipper build.

Maybe others here liked the show. I felt that there were not enough cars there for a Denver show. This show in years past used to have TONS (hundreds) of cars and it took hours to look at them all. Without even being in any sort of hurry, we saw every car, oogled some more than others in 2 hours. We had more cars than this at a private show in a field this summer. Lots of wide open spaces that should have been filled with vendors and cars especially for the $.

The cars were nice, but the layout of the show did not allow for good flow. 2 Aisles going one way then a bunch of centers aisles going another direction. That makes it easy to get off track and miss exibits. $15 ea was too much for a show as small as this plus parking was another $12 and the ridiculous $8 shot glass sized cup of crap wine I bought my girlfriend and the $6.50 low end whisky (also extra small portions) was just the icing on the cake that all but insure I won't be spending any $ at this show again.

Greybeard has a lot to do if they want this to ever be the draw it once was.

I heard a similar sentiment. Most friends who went spent an hour or less checking out the show. 12 bux and 12 bux to park for an hour was too much for me. i spent the time and cash on my truck instead.

I don't quite understand why EITHER of you guys spout off here...Joe doesn't read this HAMB...IF you want it to change, tell the promotor: here's his phone number: 303-987-1377...(that's his cel number) you can bitch directly to HIM...or address: POBox 36328, Denver , CO 80236..write him a letter addressing YOUR concerns...as if you'd even bother...

BTW, did either or you enter a car...sorta to help out...

Not complaining, just stating what I was told. I remember when the show was in the old location and took hours to get through.

Didn't enter anything, nobody wants to see my dirty old ford anyhow. Maybe in a few years ill bring out my 57.

    This isn't "complaining"...???

And if a "rat truck" was entered into the "Trad" class...who's to say your Ford couldn't have entered that class as well...???

I agree. Layout was strange. Some nice cars and the usual not so nice cars, but to each there own. Wonder why the vendors were down from years past?

Had a good time. We were there Friday morning, kind of a tradition; we always go the day after Thanksgiving. Not a lot of people there, maybe it was busier on Saturday / Sunday. I didn’t mind though, less crowds = better car viewing!

It seemed that maybe there were fewer cars than in the past, but I wasn't counting. All in all, it was a good show. :)

  22. In my opinion the crowds on Friday and Sunday were very light most of the day. Mid day Saturday was fairly busy, but overall seemed to be light attendance. I'm guessing that the car numbers were way down compared to the last show at the National Western complex. Guessing entry numbers were similar to 2010. I was working next to an artist from out of town that was really struggling with the show costs that are directly associated with the current location. Lodging, meals and parking really add up fast in downtown Denver. The food and drink costs at the event were way too high for the items being purchased, as noted by Amphicar. Having learned this last year, I made a point to bring a cooler with lunch and drinks, rather than spending all my hard earned funds at the concession stands.

I liked the layout for the artists better this year, since we were in the midst of the show rather than stuck off in a corner. I had much more foot traffic near my booth this year. Last year I could go for an hour or two without seeing anyone but other artists in our area.

I believe the somewhat scattered approach to the cars displays was very intentional. The intent was to break up the pattern of row after row of static displays. The thought was that people were more likely to spend more time looking at interesting groups of cars than they might if the cars were aligned in continuous, regularly spaced rows. I also like the fact that the promoters make a point of keeping the spaces in front of the cars as open as possible. There is nothing I hate more than having a ton of ropes, ribbons and big displays mucking up a nice looking car, truck or bike. Some folks still go way overboard on their displays, but most of the folks make the viewing (and photos) easy. Lighting sucks, but there's not much you can do about that at any indoor event.

That's my two cents worth for a show & HAMB newbie.

Not at $45 entrance fee, not without knowing it existed (no advertizing I ever saw) BTW just so you are clear ... $25 in gas for a 100 mile round trip, $30 to get in, $12 parking, $14.50 for lame assed cocktails is $81.50 to "sorta" help out.

First of all, you coulda got a $3.00 reduced price ticket at Checker/O'Reillys...that would have knocked down your (and your significant other, I'm assuming) cost to $24.00. No one forced you to spend $12.00 for parking...there were plenty of meters on the streets... and no one forced you to spend $14.50 for "lame-assed cocktails"...that's on you...

As for the $45.00 entry fee, this show has been going on for 15 years...there is always a website to access ANY information (you got a computer, don't yhou...???), and there was an exhibition-only fee of $25.00. I went for that to show off my car...and with that I got a pass for the entire weekend, plus a free parking pass for the entire weekend...plus an invite to the pre-show party, with hors d-ouevres...and got to show off my car...

    Your argument is lame...

I totally agree with 40 stude dude! I also paid $25 to enter my car not to be judged ,got FREE parking in the Convention center parking garage ALL WEEKEND,including admission for me each day ,didn't need to buy any food or drink, brought my own. Got to see tons of kick ass hot rods and Kustoms, visited with all kinds of friends and made some new ones. I liked the way the cars were scattered all over without ropes. $25 won't buy much these days , I got my moneys worth. Sounds like the guy complaining needs to change hobbies.LOL.

  28. Looks like a lot of nice cars, including some good customs I haven't seen before. I like the '36 Ford coupe with the quad headlights, that looks like an old one. Roger and Rick, I wish I could have made it down there. I wouldn't have minded spending money to get in. At least you HAVE car shows to go to in the middle of November where you live! Nice job, everybody! The cars look great, congratulations!

It's a '35, Justin......the car was built from a "one-owner car" in Denver in back in 1957...just recently repainted because of an accident...I did a 'feature' on it for CK Deluxe but don't think they are going to use it...let me know if you want it for your next book...

I was in Greeley for Thanksgiving. Made the run down on Friday. Hell of a nice show. Nice bunch of Kustoms, good bunch of rods, Amazing feature cars at the front door. High quality stuff, and it was all new to me, except for Mitch Parker's sweet 32 full fendered roadster that I saw at St Paul Nebraska in July. Oh, and I've seen a few of the Kustoms before too, but I'm a Kustom guy and I could stare at them all day,

Yeah, it was 12 bucks to get in with O'Reilly discount, and parked close enough for my Dad to walk, for $15, but so what. The price is what it is. I like cars, I'll pay it. If it was a craft show, or a dog show, or sports show, no way. But I got to see some jaw dropping machines. Was hoping to sneak up and tap 40Studedude on the shoulder, but he must have been taking a 'turkey nap' on Friday afternoon.
