I wonder how many Ford and Chevy COE's were made as crew cabs? I think the rail road and some utility companys ordered them this way. Were they made by the manufacturers or sent out to specialty companys, if so who were they?
I really like the looks of the crew cabs but am not enough of a body man to do it myself I really admire the guys that take a stock cab and make into a crew cab.

Back when I was a little kid in the 50s, Our neighbor worked for New York state tranportation. Every night he would drive a 56 F600 crew cab low sided dump truck home. I have only ever seen one other truck like it , but it was a pickup. I often wondered who did the coversions? Another rarity was a 56 Ford COE with the big back window, which was an option. I have seen one of these truck. very rare.

I was searching COE images on the net and found a 40's Chevy/GMC crew cab fire truck. It has been a while so I don't remember the site, but it was cool.

I have always heard that many of the crewcabs were built for the forestry divisions in the US and canada?
