Anyone have experience with the mounts/trans crossmember/headers from Crites for the FE? Searching really only turned up info on the 429/460 stuff. My '55 Vic currently has a 289 C4, but this fall I picked up a '66 Q-code T-bird with a 428 & C6. It's a parts car that was too good of a deal to p*** up, and I bought it with the intention of swapping out the 289 for the 428. The original Y-block mounts are long gone and there's been some other hackery by previous owners, so I'm somewhat tempted to start with a clean slate, rather than add/fab myself.
Crites at one point a few years ago had a serious issue. A disgruntled employee had waltzed out taking some part drawings with him. What a way to do business. Looking at some 429/460 stuff may give you some ideas. I know that Crites had some later FE mounting items. Ch***is tabs from a '57 and up are fairly easy to replicate.
It looks to me that the Crites mounts are for using the OEM '55-56 Y-block frame mounts. The FE will bolt in to those mounts by simply swapping the stock Y-block rubbers side to side. If your crossmember has been butchered, the easiest (and probably cheapest) fix would be to replace the crossmember with an OEM one cut out of another frame. IIRC, if you do this the trans drops right onto the stock crossmember, or at least did 'back in the day' when using a cast-iron Cruisamatic. You may have some fab work involved with the C6 however as Ford did move the rear mount around a bit in the '60s on various models. The C6 is a bit bulkier too, IIRC some floorboard m***aging may be needed. For headers, you may want to check with Ford Powertrain Applications. From what I've heard, the Crites stuff has to be used together for it to work as they have a proprietary design.
