your truck is beautiful. I have a 4bt in my 1940 ford truck and we are building a 1930 tudor for a buddy right now. I am also doinf a build with a 1948 ad truck with a benz td right now. I took my son on a 1700 mile roadtrip in my 40 ford over july 4th weekend, from sarasota to North Carolina. got about 34mpg at 85mph all day long. The diesel is not exactly "traditional", but it might be the answer alot of people are looking for. Deep in history, eco friendly, simple to fix, cheap on fuel. I know that people on this site flame what is not traditional, but they seem to LOVE those air-ride builds..... I don't remember those from the golden age of hotrods... at least ***mins and benz has extensive diesel race history going as far back the fourtys. For those that dont like them, get used to it. Diesels are coming on strong, And to the owner of this truck, you did a great job building a really cool hot rod. I drive mine allover the southeast U.S. maybe our paths will cross one of these days. if so we will need to throw soot and tell road tales. Good luck on your travels. Joel

4BT's are like Hens teeth here. I wish I could find a decent one to use in a project. I want it to look traditional like this
[IMG]
and I want to run the same engine. What a great looking Hot Rod.

12. very cool...(nice brush work by you on his rig too)

13. Looks like total fun and unique enough.

14. Neat! I like different and it's a great thing you did with your son.

This nice little Vicky stayed at the same motel we did in Louisville this year. The owner said it has had a diesel in it for a couple decades now. It's an Isuzu he said, I know, DUCK! right? But like I said, I like different and even though it's a little Asian 4 banger diesel in a pretty straight forward street rod I thought it was really cool. Especially at 40+ mpg.

I too, have a 4BT in my '30 A Tudor and couldn't be happier with it. Your truck looks great!

Enjoy the ride home. I saw your truck several times in Utah, just didn't manage to cross paths with you. Hopefully next time.

Hey Guys, Still running great, Stopped in PA for a break from driving. Hope to be home on Sunday, Last 900 miles to go. This trip has been the greatest trip a Father and Son could do. Everywhere we went and people we met were awsome. Anyone who has never been to Bonneville MUST GO !! And for me to Build a car that only a few people understood and drive it across the country and back has great rewards. I must say thanks to my Best friends without them this would not be possable: The Best Fabricator in the world, Charlie Libby Body and Paint, Jeff Holdbird And you all know, The greatest pinstriper of all time "Edwerid" Ed Crews Thanks guys Thank you thank you. Kind of going to be sad to put this last leg of of our road trip to a end. But then there's next year !!!!

shucks folks, i'm speechless.

20. Love the truck. Great story. I have a Benz turbo motor that I'd love to stuff into one of my projects, $4.00 per gallon fuel make that seem pretty appealing.

Good Morning everyone, Well we made it back home safe and sound. Just shy of 6000 miles, 21 States, and a whole bunch of new friends. The truck ran great, No issues at all. Mileage was awesome, Just all-round fun to drive. Kevin did great even when temps stayed in triple digits. of course Ice cream always helped. Thanks for letting us share or trip with everyone out there… <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

A 6000 mile trouble-free trip is a tribute to the reliability of your little diesel rig. Really
unique!. Ya cant beat 'em for mileage and longevity, either. (But, don't get me started on fuel prices).

Have had several diesels; currently an old BMW that gets 32 mpg in town. Gotta love 'em!

Jim, The best time on a road trip ever. Rokit, Running that diesel was the best thing I could do, I don't think I would have had 6000 miles of trouble free running from a gas engine, One wire runs the engine and one wire Alternator, That bout' sums it up. Less to break. =)

Way to go Jeff! Like I told y'all at Bessingers, you are living the dream. I hope to someday do a father & son cross country road trip too... It kind of sums up what it's all about.

Glad y'all made it home safe and sound and I look forward to seeing more of that oil burner around town.

Cheers,
Alex

I gotta ask, and I do so RESPECTFULLY so don't think I'm bashin' anyone.

A little banger diesel getting 40 MPG sounds cool as hell, but what kind of PERFORMANCE does it have? I'm sure it'll get out of it's own way but that little motor can't put out much more than say 150 HP and 300 Torque, right?

Edu-ma-cate me.
