I'm fabbing up a cross steer arm for my straight axle Comet. It will bolt to the upper two bolts on the spindle and grab the tie rod straight from the box. Based on what I've seen other folks do, I went today and bought a piece of 3x3x1/2 angle iron to cut out my arm. Holy **** folks...this would be at home on a D9 Cat!!!

To amuse myself I cut one out of 3x3x1/4 angle. With two small gussets it looks like it would be pretty strong, but to be honest I don't know what forces we are talking about. Anybody want to offer an opinion? Is 1/2 inch overkill?

I have one on mine from Speedway Mtrs. It's 3/8ths thick. No problems, on 2 yrs. now. However, I don't think the 1/2 in. piece would be ( or look ) overkill, if you can make it fit. I've seen them before.
