What ever you do, start a retirement fund!! IRA, 401k etc. it will hit faster than you think. My wife and I just buried her mom who was basically penniless. She never planned for retirement and her final years weren't the happiest. And for anyone who says money can't buy happiness, TRUE! But it will make an incredible difference in the quality of your life especially at the end. Just my.02. -stick

you want to know what I think?
I think your wife is right, you are a cry baby blogger
I think I like the way zbuickman thinks, reread it
I think Sracecraft is imparting valueable wisdom when he says
"I find the best guys I have, never talk about what they have done or are going to do, they just do it."
and I think DoubleUc is right on the money too.

when you get to a fork in the road, you take it!

Most people do them from their work, but it's pretty simple at 401k.com. Mess around with some of the charts and see what some monthly contributions will do for you.

At 26 and new at my job, I immediately sterted with 20% of my check into a 401k. I never had to live without the money!

I agree. Put the chute on before you jump out of the plane. The fall is fantastic and exciting. Tha landing can be a bitch if you dont plan. And, like Southdiver said, even with a plan you can still get f**ked. I did the same thing and not one thing has worked. Just look before you leap is all I can say..

And after saying all of that, do you realize how lucky you are? Do you realize that unlike SO many others, you have the chance of a lifetime? Everything in your life is FAR better then most who strike out on their own and yet here you sit with your hands in your lap.

Your life is half over. Suck it up. 40 is the new 30, but on a life expectancy of 80, you've hit middle aged.

There is NO better time then now for a person like you! You've got nobody else except yourself to worry about and yet here you are over thinking EVERYTHING.

Get off your ass and start living your life before it's too damn late.

So says the girl who's got more to lose then you do, but has already begun to jump in with both feet. I won't be 40 and CONTEMPLATING living my life to the fullest.:p

Since this is still going on, I'll make a couple of comments.
**edited out the social commentary...no need to start a row**</P)2. You like "fast" things. You don't know where to go on a project. But you hate being an electrician. You don't want to open your own shop cause you don't know anything. Sounds like you need training. Go to work in a full service gas station and learn from the mechanic. Go to a body shop and be a shop bitch. Join a race team. 3. While youth is nice and this "i don't need to worry about money" attitude is cool enough, who's going to feed you when you're 80?
Keep in mind that even if you're doing what you "love" to do, it won't be on your own stuff. I've opened my own shop and pay big bucks for lease, etc., but I only work on my own stuff, in my own time, and though I would prefer to do it as a regular job, I've kept my regular job and very nice salary so I don't get trapped into working on other people's stuff and not working on mine.

"And Django I really don't do sidejobs for the simple fact that they usually go unappreciated considering I'm taking my personal time away to do work for someone else, but in your situation I'd be more than happy to help out with any shop wiring that you may have. Just send me a PM with your info and we can go from there."

actually I'm planning on going to the open house at shop in Addison on the 27th and I've already made plans to do their electrical work.

Very Cool! I'm really glad to hear you say that! You got the talent dude...I mean, with your bike! I was hoping to talk with ya at the Pile Up and let you know that, but I must have missed ya! Maybe I will see ya at the open house and I look forward to meeting you!
So maybe I should post that "How Badly Do You Want It" story for others chim'n in on the post too...cause its starting to sound like you get it!

I'm no great scholar by any stretch but I do like a dude named Socrates. He was a great mind of his day (Greek, but you probadly knew that) and if interested he is well worth the time to seek out! Just saying his name evokes a feeling that I'm probadly not trying to project, more so in a Jalopy Journal forum, but here goes...

A young, devoted follower of Socrates pleaded with him to share the secret of acquired knowledge. Socrates willingly consented and led the young man to a river. "This is how," Socrates stated as he pushed the young man into the river, and then jumping in himself, he held the young man's head underwater. The young man struggled frantically to free himself, but Socrates held him tight and kept his head submerged.
Finally, after the young man scratched, clawed, and fought with every ounce of his being, he was able to break loose and emerge from the water. Socrates then asked him, "When you thought you were drowning, what one thing did you want most most of all?"
Still gasping for breath, the young man exclaimed, "I wanted air!" Socrates smiled and then wisely commented, "When you want knowledge as much as you wanted air, then you will get it!"

This story was given to me when I was on a crossroad and I will be damned if it didn't echo what Sracecraft was saying, just in a different colour. I think you can see the relationship here. I can only hope this has somehow helped you and I look forward to meeting you!
