I ran into a problem back when I had a 64 T-bird. I had a cracked case and had to find another medium case so I went to the only local salvage yard that had older cars. The first one I grabbed was out of a 64 Mercury and it ended up being trashed. I took it back and found one stashed in an old bus full of transmissions. It turned out to be a pickup truck unit with the short tailshaft but the main case was good. The only problem was that FoMoCo had deleted the p***ages for the rear pump. My transmission guy put it together with the pump gear since he had forgotten about the lack of p***ages. The damn thing was trying to pump oil with nowhere for it to go and it made a loud noise like you might imagine a blocked pump would plus had a lot of drag on it when trying to drive. Took the tail shaft back out and removed the pump gear and all was well. It didn't have a rear pump any more but I never planned on towing it or pull staring it anyway.

Well, the only other thing I would try to do with the front servo is to apply air pressure to the release side of the servo only. If there is nothing wrong with it, it should do nothing but SPRAY FLUID ALL OVER YOU AGAIN! and not apply the band. If it does apply the band, there is a problem with the seals in the servo.
If the servo airchecks ok, then I would go back through the valve body as I cant see anything else to cause the problem internally at this time. Im stumped!
Both of these would not make the problem be there with the engine shut off though. You said it wont push backwards with the engine shut off. That would have to be a physical mechanical problem with the trans, not a hydraulic one.

    Question:
Does the trans start out in first gear in the Drive2 position. If it does then the sprag or roller clutch thats in the planetary would not be installed backwards. Even if it were installed backwards it would not lock up the trans in reverse due to the planetary being held stationary with the rear band in reverse. If it were backwards, the trans would free wheel in the Drive 2 position, and the only way you would get it to move would be to put it in Low and manually shift to D2 and then it will lock up from 1st to 2nd.

    One other question:
Does the rear end turn or the car push freely both ways, with the drive shaft disconected?

Got a bad feeling you are going to be taking this thing all back apart again.

Yes i tryed that also. It does not apply the band when i put pre***ure on the release only.

It did! But after i loosened the front band i could push the car backwards, but not drive.

It drives and shifts in D2, but its hard to tell if it starts and shifts from first gear with the rear wheels off the ground.

    Yes, no problem there.

Me too.. could something be screwed to tight somewhere (valve body?) or a fluid pipe be seated wrong to cause a small leak maybe?

Strange also that i can push the car backwards after releasing the front band a bit. Its set .3 inches between the screw and servo now.. so it should not be to tight?

No --- not the same problems, but definitely this thread is going to help point me in some good directions should things go south. Right now my friend has been ensuring the engine is running and in tip-top shape before we drop the transmission in. Once we do I know there is going to be some fiddling to get it right so.....

Finally opened the trans again today! The piston in the front clutch was stuck about 0.2 inches up from the bottom again.. i knocked on it a few times then it went down completely. There was no wear on the clutch plates however so i dont know if it is the cause for the reverse locking up?

Cant seem to find any other problems. Just that there was some oil in the extension housing.. dont remember that the first time i took it down.

Edit: and yeah, the rear band was in the wrong way.. dont know if that matthers either?
