I have a freshly rebuilt FMX trans that a friend gave me (maybe 69 model year). Would it be worth putting in my 62 Galaxie to replace leaky trans when the motor comes out. From what I have read, it is nothing special but it seems to be an upgraded model of my FX cruise-o-matic. Looks like Ford just combined the best features of the FX and MX models. How different are the mounting points? Will I just be pulling this out and changing it later? I consider the car a fair weather daily driver. Will the juice be worth the squeeze? The car will be getting a mild built 390 and I hate the amount of power a c6 steals. I see a lot a threads on the C-O-M and nothing greatly positive. Thanks!
There would be no benefit to me. Both trans are 3 speed non-overdrive autos with similar gear ratios. If the mounting points are the same, go for it, but I doubt very much that they are, so you will have to do some fabrication. That extra work would be a deal breaker for me. If I was going to have to fab up new trans mounts, I would be putting in a trans that improved the cars performance and driveability, like an AOD or other late model over-drive.
