Hey, you mentioned my friend Richard Johnson! Did you see him at the cruise? I invited him. I've been to a few car shows with him, and have never seen him chat with so many. I think he was in his element with all the old school car people.

Well I've never been accused of being adult but... back to the cruising - those of you who were there 'back then' - tell us all what you drove (Groucho - a lowrider?) show pics, what music were you listening to?
I mean the Vid was cool, thanks, but Happy Days?

1- Happy Days was one of the #1 shows then...Heeey! the Fonz, man! That song was played on the radio...AM...Heard it in my moms Impala...
2- I was driving a '66 Ford Galaxie, 289, 10:5-1 pistons, Hipo cam, automatic, 64 T-bird seats, full console from a 63 galaxie XL, added power windows, Shag carpet (used ) from a friend of mine's van, Appliance Wire-Mags (ever seen those?) w/knock-offs, 8-track hidden in the console, a Sanyo AM-FM radi that looks like a tach (called the Tach-Rad...and I still have it) mounted under the dash. Painted dark green metallic (almost black) with a painted white roof....Covered in pinstriping and ghost flames by "Got'cha"....Oh yea, I also removed the rear seat arm rests....More headroom...
3- Listened to...Peter Frampton Comes Alive, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith...have you ever seen the movie "Dazed and Confused" ? The cars, clothes and music and hair styles hit the nail on the head...I identified with almost every character...
4- Stop the racial bullshit now...This is about cruising...Someone else said to PM...I agree...This is directed to everyone PLEASE!!!
    Thank you,
    Your Cruise Director
( the LOVE BOAT was big then too)

Groucho, that is the real deal.

I was at the Van Nuys Cruise, it rocked! The Blvd. is pretty run down these days however, some scary looking shit with all the Pawn Shops and Bail Bonds. WTF, the cruisers can only be a big improvement. Hope the city fathers WAKE UP and support this deal, cruising put the City of Van Nuys on the friggin' map.

  10. How do they know? Well, a good "rule of thumb" would simply be....If it's NOT your car, keep your Godamn fucking hands off the mutherfucker:D. Make sense?

  11. groucho you need to build another low rider! Show these people how its was done in the san fernando valley

  12. I want to. My buddy Andy (Adex) will hook me up with a good deal on some Italian made hydraulics. I'd kinda like to cut a 62 Pontiac, but I'm not too particular. An early to mid 60's GM car preferably.

  13. Here's my 58. It was inspired by the 1st "Gypsy Rose". Look close at the Metalflake bench-buckets

What I like about the June 10 event was the variety. I talked with Bob Bond about this, he worked on the Blvd. at Mother Trucker for a while, the van scene was massive in the 70s, he of course is a legend with the custom painting and pinstripe work, he recently bought his old "Chevy LUV" truck back, which was a Van Nuys Blvd. cruiser too.

The variety is what makes it so fun, tons of different types of rides.

  22. Hell, I was WORSE (in some HAMB eyes) back then. Keep in mind, the stuff we love was everywhere then. Also, in the mid 70's, when the oil prices went nuts, everyone sold their gas hogs.......to guys like me that were smart enough to know you didn't need an economy car to drive to the corner gas station where we worked, or 1 mile to our chick's house. I could go through 5-6 cars in one month in the "day".:D

  23. BTW-stop "crumbing" on Mike Shaw's thing. The flyer says 20th annual, to suggest it's only once a year. So, let's all go, support it, and recruit those people about OUR cruise. Make sense?

Were there any cruisers out there from Hoover High in Glendale???
I'm class of 1979...(my 30th reunion is in September)...Are any of you out there, or did ya get married and get your balls taken away and put in a jar so you can't cruise anymore???

  26. I'd like to clear something up. I hope I didn't place my words to be mis-understood. I have agreed on the general disrespect for the cars at that Glendale show. And I have heard of that show's nickname through the years. I did NOT agree that the 2 overlapped. I have several Armenian friends. And they're ALL great people.

I grew up in Glendale and cruised VNB in 1977-79.

I also am familiar with the cruise night on Brand Blvd. and I am aware of the name it has received and for very good reason. If you aren't willing to confront IDIOTS that are NOT CAR PEOPLE, then don't take your classic car there. You must be willing to stay with it and be willing to stand up for your ride. I've never entered my Chevelle there (very expensive pearl paint job), because I'd have to open a can of WHOOP ASS on someone and I don't want to break a nail off in someone's face because they are an idiot.

I was at Bob's Toluca Lake a few months ago with my Chevelle and some numbnuts and his kid walked by my car. The kid proceeded to pull on one of my hood pin wires and I asked him not to touch the cars. The Dad flew into a verbal rage and went after me and my car. I'm glad I was on my way out when this happened, because there would have been some drama from this Mama.

The way I see it is...UNLESS YOU'RE BLIND DON'T TOUCH THE F'N CARS! I let a blind man touch my Chevelle years ago at a show in Pacific Palisades, only because his assistant was kind enough to ask first. He had no jewelry on and nothing that could scratch it, and that was OK for him to touch it, since that was the only way he could enjoy the "beauty" of a car of that calliber.

Other people just do it, because they are ignorant. Some people should not be at a car show at all. You know the ones I'm talking about. I'm sure each of you knows the ones I'm talking about.
