The landing strip, is on Vanowen and Havenhurst, it's a mexicali bar now but the neon signs with the planes are still up.

Tommy burger is still there, right accross the street from the Budwiser plant...

    CraigR:

The low profile thing worked for many years when I had a stock looking brown Big Block '68 Vette. But as time went on it became harder and harder to get races as the car became known. I did at one point put a bumper sticker on the car that said: "The Bottle IS - For Babies", then when potential race opponents would ask, I've been told you're on the bottle, I'd show them the bumber sticker and say "Would I have that sticker on there if I were on the bottle?" I wasn't actually lying, I was just asking a question. :)

One ploy I used to keep from opening my hood was to keep a piston in my car that had the indentation of a screw in the top of the piston dome - and I'd say: "I don't run an air cleaner and people can drop stuff down the carb when I'm not looking - so I'd rather not open the hood.

But there came a point where it didn't really matter what kind of car I had. Seeing my ponytail alone was all it took to discurage people from racing me, or at least races that I could win easily.

I also ran a Gray Big Block '82 Camaro - later installed a 6-71 and two nitrous plates. So that was pretty much an in-your-face ride and lost it's "sleeper" status. Then I had the Black '82 Camaro that I had Gail Banks install dual turbos on. I wasn't lifting hoods on those cars.

Very few ever actually saw the Frankensqueeze unit - as you surmise, the shock value would have been too great. :)

Still never heard if there were any Hoover High (Glendale) cruisers out there?
I guess maybe they all moved away.

The Hoover High class of 1979 reunion is in September. I guess I'll get to see which of 'em are still alive. Hopefully they're just Married and not Buried!

Geez, Eryk, your DAD went there?!
Now I really am starting to feel OLD!
I was a sophomore in 1977, so I didn't know many of the seniors. Not until I got to 11th grade and took auto shop in Robert Dionis' class (yes, I was the ONLY girl in auto shop) did I start to hang out with the higher-ups. LOL! I still have all of my hair and no plastic surgery!

Hahaha. Hair and lack of plastic is a good thing. Technically, he's my stepdad. But I do have younger parents than most people my age. I'm 30.

I gotta say I'm really excited about the next cruise, I know the buddy I went with is too. From the vibe I got and seeing this thread, I think it's *really* gonna blow up next month. I hope the growing pains aren't too bad!

Are we still gonna be able to use the dealership parking lot? Kudos to them for having us!

I'm coming from Quartz Hill. Last time there was a couple guys from the AV. We should get a caravan going. I'll be towing my other car down there for it's maiden cruise on Van Nuys, but I'd be happy to roll with any other other AV'ers as a group.

No, I usually get the Mega-Combo, I'm never that far South early enough to get breakfast. I used to eat Tommys all the time when I was a kid and lived in Westminster. I wish they would build one in the Fresno area, all we have around here are McDogfood & Taco Smell. [IMG]

Ha, one Saturday night I was driving Bottle Bob's wife's auto-stick VW Bug. I tried to get a race with it. When they found out it was Bob's car, no one would touch it. Sheeesh! That thing was bone stock. :D

    Hey Groucho,

I was there this past Wednesday 6/17 night too, riding shotgun in Rand's yellow 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. From 7:00-9:00, we saw a little over 20 different cars cruise by, and/or park. We did see some hogs too. We saw quite a varity of stuff (low riders, customs, street rods, muscle cars, trucks, etc). Additionally, there were several people that DIDN'T bring their car, but rather their DAILY driver. Doing that, does not help out the effort...period! We need to implore upon them that they MUST bring their old car/truck, to make this work.

Yeah, I'll be there. If you don't see my orange '57 Belvedere then look for a rusty '67 Verdoro green Firebird. You'll know it's mine because some previous owner threw an alligator skin vinyl roof on it.

It's so bad I actually kind of like it.
