On the chick with the plate frame...That's what I figured but there are always people out there that swear by it, and that they saw it, or knew her. Most probably, somewhere out there, in some small town or city, some chick did do that, or at the very least, something very close to it.

i recall the vw with the v-8 and suit case cover as a being in a mag late 70's or so. naturally i cant recall wich one, but pretty sure that ones real.

there were a million stories about the if you can beaet me cars.......around here it was a yellow chevelle. im sure some were real

i also remember the dickmobile, odd creation it was, but i know some guys who should be driving one now, lol

  6. I think two myths existed in almost any town when I was younger

1-some chick with the "beat me-eat me" thing on the car somewhere

2-the guy with the $100 bill on the glove box door. If you can reach it while I'm accellerating, you can have it

In my MANY adventures, I've never seen either one myself

The guy with the V-8 VW used to hang at Jack in the box sometimes. if i remember correctly it was Red. and it was a small block Chevy V-8

  9. I think Bob Brandt (Snake's crew chief back then) used to street race one.

I believe that Tony N (Time in a bottle) knew her. The "if you can beat me Nova" It was no myth

The $100 bill on the glovebox claim, as I have always heard it to be, was attributed to Carroll Shelby when the 427 Cobra's were announced to the public.

Either way, they're all great stories...

Boy, it looks like this thread could use some juice. How's about another good story?

Did any of you ever hear about the time Don Prudhomme drove Tommy Ivo's duel Nail Head engine dragster through the Van Nuys Bob's?

That may be a separate incident, It wouldn't surprise me. I have story from someone who I believe was there, and is a very good source. Don Prudhomme lived near by, and his father worked in Ray Brooks Auto Body which I believe was on Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys.

Just email tommy ivo. He's got a website, I emailed him about doing a cameo in a remake of ghost of dragstrip holler and he got back to me right quick, he was really nice. He came across as a very, very smart man. If there's any truth to it, he'll remember.

had a substitute teacher in high school with a built turbo'd gmc cyclone s10, we got to talking in class about cars and shit and he statrs telling the class how he was hot shit because of his little s10, and the whole class is looking at me since i was known in school to be the car guy that everyone went to for advise/help (i drove a nicely built 71nova, hands down the nicest car in the parking lots, student and teachers), and they all have this look on their faces like "is this douchebag for real?" so all of the sudden he pull the line of "yeah i carry a hundred dollar bill in my wallet and anyone that thinks they can grab it when i spool up and launch the truck can keep it" so me being the smart ass loudmouth that i am calls him out on his statement in front of all 30 students in class. now its like you see in the movies the whole class goes silent looking at this guy waiting for his response, and after about 30 seconds the tells me that hes gonna have to decline the challenge since he was absolutely positive that i wasnt going to be able to grab it...... the whole class broke out in laughter at the guy for pussing out, and he eventually had to call the front office and have the principal come to our class threatening the class with all kinds of punnishment and shit, just to regain control of the class. it was one of my most memorable moments of my senior year for sure.

Yes, I know, but, thank you for reminding me, I believe the shop where he worked was actually the place on Van Nuys Boulevard.

Thanks for that piece of information, that make the likelihood of the Twin Engine drive through of Bob's more plausible, as well as a daredevil rip down VN Blvd.

That is cool. Speaking of Paul Le Mat, I was reminded of this photo.

These are the last two movies shown at the Victory Drive-in, which was located on Victory Boulevard in Van Nuys before they tore it down.

After looking at the sign for a while it hit me, 2 actors who had been in car movies. Paul Le Mat from American Graffiti, and David Carradine from Cannon Ball Run.

This was a great Drive-in, I'm happy my friend, Mike Wallen took photos of it both before and while they were tearing it down, other wise there would be no record of it.
