Man, that is too bad, that would have made for even a better shot. There's always next month, right?

    El Carino...she's Hispanic, not Asian!
Me thinks non-car people should not even try to pronounce the name of a classic car. You just end up with your foot in your mouth!

El Carino? does it pick up your groceries and fight crime all at once?

  5. I think this ElTorino thing's been beat to death:rolleyes:
But I do agree that non car people should NOT cover car events. I'm asked on a regular basis to speak about cars when I'm at Bob's on a Friday night. I always decline. When asked why, I tell them, you're sure to make a mockery out of it somehow, and I don't wanna be a attached to it. A couple years ago, the news did a piece on Bob's. With all the cool stuff that shows up there, they featured a Ford Pinto for most of the broadcast

If done right, Vega's and Pinto's can both be cool. Groucho's Vega is nicely done. Even as a Ford guy, I do like the way it looks. Over the years, I've had friends with both cars. Some were crap and some were really cool!!!

Hi Guys, just saw this on another message board:

    Hey Guys,

Just got home from my Dads place & one of his mates was there with his son. He is 14, is 5'8 tall & weighs only 40kgs ( 88lbs ). He has a disease called Crones Disease. Anyway he is a mad car nut, all he talks about & anybody who has a car he likes he cons a ride out of them so he got a cruise in my car today & a few days ago some dude picked him up from school in a Porsche. He has just been granted through the Make-a-wish foundation a 10 day trip from here in Sydney to LA to go to the Hot Wheels factory & any other car stuff they can squeeze in. Thought some of you may know of some cool car stuff to do around LA in September ?

I thought about the NHRA museum. Any other ideas I can pass onto them would be appreciated ?

    Thanks Guys
    Scott

I responded to get the kid to the Sept. Cruise while he is here in L.A.?. Can we get this kid hooked up with rides in cars at the cruise and a VNCA tshirt?

Great replies guys. What I am hoping is that he will be able to make it to the next cruise and then we get him hooked up with anyone willing to take him up and down the blvd. a couple of times and then just keep it up from car to car. Not a big deal to us but my guess is it will make the kid's head pop from the excitement.

You just can't buy the good feelings that will result from helping a kid in his predicament.

Very cool thing you are doing here. And your "guess" is right! It means the world to these kids. Kudos to you!!

Let us know if we can help..

I may be able to get some racing T's, stickers, race car hand out pics, die cast cars etc..if he is into that stuff.

    Let me know

i enjoyed directing traffic the other night!... i had fun yellin at people... the nicest way possible of course...

what i think we need is walkie talkies :D

and someone on the inside giving whoever is at the entrance an updated count of how many spots are available.

    just a thought.

To help out that Aussie kid would be a great thing. This is the type of positive news that could help generate good media.

RE: Pintos and Vegas, once you get rid of the 4-bangers and add a strong rear end, you're on the way. The bodies are not bad, what was bad about the originals was the (engine in the Vega) and the poor design of the shock bolt near the gas tank (Pinto) and how it would puncture the tank in a rear-end collision. Add in the doors not being able to open and you have a death trap.

Do you have an area where most of the Hambers meet up? I'm so stoked for next month. Been recruiting here too. I should be bringing 2 friends with their cars.

HEY REID... I WAS READING BACK ON SOME OLD POSTS ON THE "WHO CRUISED VAN NUYS BLVD IN THE 70'S THREAD"

    FOUND YOUR POST:

"Right here...I'm working on getting more people (hopefully)... I know a few interested parties...Set up a night in early summer and start it off....Talk to your friends & club members....Or like Elrobo, make it a weekly or monthly deal.....This ain't gonna happen overnight...But to do it right you need more than 10 guys..."

    IT WAS HARD WORK BUT

HONESTLY... IT SEEMS LIKE THE BLVD DID COME BACK TO LIFE OVER NIGHT!

    MORE THAN TEN GUYS???

    IM STILL AMAZED EVERY MONTH...

It's not likely that this thing would have ever got off the ground without what you guys did.

However, this was once the worlds most famous cruising strip, and it lasted
about 40 years, and it took the authorities about 10 of those years for them to bring it to a stop. Tens of thousands cruised this boulevard, and the recollection of it burns bright in their collective memories to this day.

Those that are still here, and still others who live else where have made the trek to rekindle a piece of yesterday. A time when America was still number one at just about everything, a hand shake still meant something, and life traveled at a slower pace.

Regardless of what kind of car thing you're into, we all share the memory of having once cruised Van Nuys Boulevard.

Hello Bash --- I'm no editor, make mistakes myself, but on these boards more and more I see sloppy English and wonder if it will ever improve or we are doomed as a country with crappy use of the language / spelling.

Carry on. Van Nuys Blvd. rocks! :D
