I second that the turnout sucked last month. In 2 days we'll know if the novelty has worn off. I haven't missed one since it restarted. Even the so called rained out wed a few months back. And my car definetaly does not like to be wet.

  2. sounds good. we'll be there!!

Yes, we almost filled our lot last month...I've had friends who've gone to Bobs lately and were able to pull right into a parking spot at all different times....
Getting people out of Rydell means more people in the restaurants and on the Blvd..CRUISING!!!! Sounds like fun to me!!!:D

Hey Groucho weather man is saying there might be a chance of rain wednesday............now what :)

  5. rain in the forcast is just going to keep people away.

no rydel lot shouldn't make a difference this month because most people don't know its not going to be open for them! they will most likely try parking in there anyways or drive around all confussed, thinking its the wrong wednesday of the month.

Christ, people! A whopping 30% chance of morning showers at best. Big deal! Whatever rain does happen will be pathetically light in the morning. The temps in the evening should still be at least 10-15 degrees warmer than last months cruise.

I have driven 80 miles round trip from VC for the past 6 cruises, cold, wet, or broiling. It bothers me that 55 degree temperatures are deemed cold to people around here. Try going back to Minnesota.

Rant over: bottom line is get out and cruise, dammit. It will not rain at night, even though the ridiculous So Cal news weather actors hype it up to be an epic storm..............even though there is only a 20-30% chance.

It is going to be something along those lines, Fred, I agree.

Lets see everyone out there. If for some reason it did drizzle (which it wont), at least I will have water injection through my six pack hood. Lol.:D

Here's something that's been on my mind for a while.

Back in the hey day of the "bull"... would it have been reasonable or expected that people would come from my area (san gabriel Valley), OC, or even the IE to cruise on a wednesday night in Van Nuys?

A lot of the older guys I have talked to around my area, when I mention the return of Van Nuys cruising, tell me that they rarley if ever went out to the SF Valley becuase they had plenty to do around here.

So if the old VN cruise was mostley populated buy the people of the SF Valley back in the day... is a potential lite turnout really the fault of those of us who make a long drive? Or is it the fualt of a changed SF Valley population?

Just wondering... I'll see you guys tomorrrow either way.

i recall back in the day people used to come from quite far away, as we also went pretty far on other nights of the week to hangouts such as wittier or colorado blvd.

i agree though seems like there used to be more chicks, but maybe they are just hiding from us old dudes

Yes, back in the late 60s people came from all over Southern California. Now, granted not everyone came to cruise Van Nuys Boulevard, just like some pidgens won't leave their roost, but, if you were into cruising, it was hard to resist. Someime you would meet people from out of state, or out of the country. The word was out far and wide.

A photojournalist friend of mine, Franco Rossi from Italy did a number of articles on the boulevard that were published in magazines all over europe. The Europeans were eating it up, and wanting more. They were flipped out on the whole hot rod thing, and the life style.

Cruising did get a big draw from other areas, but, mostly on Friday & Saturday nights. Fridays night had the largest draw with Wednesday & Saturday coming in second.

In those days cruising was alive and well all over Southern Cal, so if you made the trek to Van Nuys, there would be dozens of other hot spot to hit or cruise on the way home. Todays scene is a totally different deal it's more a "reseeding" of cruising, and like planting, it will take a while for things to blossom.

I wouldn't worry about the poor turnout right now, it'll pick up as it gets warmer and it'll be packed soon enough.

We just got the call that the article about the Van Nuys Blvd cruise is going to be running in the L.A. Times tomorrow. So buy a copy just in case. It should be good, the writer is a cruiser girl herself, and Pam went to school with her sister, also a cruiser!

As a report, rain is completely over here in Ventura and the clouds are starting to disperse.

It should be occuring in the valley as well.

It is going to be nice cruising weather tonight, about 55 degrees.

I saw that place last time. I may have to drop by there at some point tonight and get some grub. I am sure that I will be starving after work.
