I just saw this on FB and the guy who posted it, allowed me to post it over here.
I have no connection to this but I thought, it may be interesting to someone.....

"ATTENTION ! . . . . These cars and parts are heading to the crusher, very, very soon. You have a chance to save as many as you can rather cheap. so please get at it , also spread the word. Please don't let all of them get ruined. The salvage yard is in 412 Dennison Rd., Tehachapi Cali., just south of Bakersfield Cali., near Highway 58. Near the Rodeo grounds entrance and Tehachapi recycling. It's not a huge lot, but there are many great cars and trucks there, including old, really big trucks. Hope you can save some...."

Wow, have stopped in town several times while passing through the area - never knew that yard is there. Lots of local car guys in Bakersfield area, and people involved in drag racing at FAMOSO, that should have been making purchases there. Plus, big name builders in Mojave area. Never heard them mention it .

  8. WOW! Been through Tehachapi more times than I can count & had no idea it was there.

So many great classics that need to be saved, I wish I was in the position to go out, pick 6 or 8 & put them on a carrier headed home. With 12 already (many that still need done) & the new house addition/renovation.....I just can't

Hopefully through threads on great forums like the Hamb MANY more guys can get there before the crusher starts. This is the third forum I have seen it on just this morning.

    God Bless

  9. It’s a damn shame it’s all going to scrap .

lots of money to made just scrapping it out .

They could have made 10x that amount by parting it out and selling complete cars for even a year before scrapping out and still of made good money off of scrap while getting some cars and parts into circulation.

Oh well , I’ll fix it some day , it’s worth more then what your offering, etc etc .

A fast nickel is worth more to me than a slow dime any day of the week . And getting stuff out smd used makes me happier then “ he who dies with the most toys wins “

anyways , hopefully some or even 1 car can be saved , crusher is on site so I guess they have only days to haul out what they can

Sucks that there never seems to be much lead time notice to get parts/cars out of yards before they're crushed out. Typically, the yard has been there 50 years and there's a weeks notice before they're unceremoniously crushed.

Looks to be a lot of 50's cars with solid sheet metal, trim, etc. Some of the cars look to be complete enough to be buildable - IF they have titles...though a lot of them look to have had the glass vandalized.

Damn shame.. Not many of these old yards left. Hopefully some can be saved. I’m always amazed at the condition of the old junkyard cars in this part of the US. Here in the N East, when you stumble upon an old yard, usually the only thing left is the stainless trim! ☹️

A yard in Springfield, OR years ago was bringing a crusher. My partner and I made a deal with the owner to go in and take as much sheet metal and trim as we could possibly use on future customs,
like front sections of roofs for chopping etc, and any fenders, taillights, a treasure trove of hard to find stuff for pennies on the dollar. One thing we couldn't do was take in a torch, so I made a machete from a spring leaf an a BFH to work it. With todays battery powered tools it would be a piece of cake to cut whatever you would want !
Get on it you So Cal Guys !

I’m guessing everything there was extremely over priced over the years. Now the property has become too valuable, the owner got a summons to clean it up, died and his children want the $$$$. Cars are probably meaningless to them. Hope some is saved.

    I saw this, too.

My area of Wisconsin lost 5 old junkyards this past year, with a 6th in limbo, and lost multiple times more parts cars than that overhead shot shows. But in our case, teams of us stripped those cars down quite a ways before they were lost, and every single one of them had extreme body rot in them, Wisconsin cars tend to deteriorate really badly when sitting on dirt for decades.

The sadder part here is that most of these cars look pretty solid, they could be built. I didn't see any shockingly desirable body styles in the pictures I saw (lots of 4 door sedans) but still, a shame if they all go.

I'm curious to know what the pricing would be like. Is it going to be double scrap price (which would be reasonable, scrap is cheap right now) or "I need 2 grand for that car or I'll crush it" type pricing. Hard to tell.

There has been a family feud for several years since the owner died. Part of the family wanting to crush the yard and another wanting to reopen it. The crusher group won out. They have opened the yard for a limited time for car and parts sales. They have now restricted it to parts only and are planning to crush it very soon. I have a friend that has been there every day scrounging what he can, but the family is anxious to crush and get the money. They are NOT much in the way of car people. The land, one cleared is valuable and that is what they are hoping to sell. There is no phone number to call. It is show up and grab what you can as fast as you can for the time being .

Even if the cars couldn't be saved, there are certainly some desirable parts there that could be saved. Those Pontiac tail lights immediately come to mind

That doesn’t look like a small yard to me! Looks like they are stacked in there real close! I know there are bigger yards….but also smaller yards , too!

The story DeuceMac was nice enough to share sounds a lot like several of the yards we lost here in Wisconsin. Families inherit it, there's a window to buy stuff but they have no desire to run it, and whatever isn't saved is lost.

Unfortunately there aren't enough of us who'll strip and buy anything that can be resold, so a lot of good parts end up getting destroyed. Plus the time factor.

If you think parts are expensive now, just wait until the bulk of these small places have the same fate. Soon all that will be left is us parts dealers who bought all we could before those places were lost and are now selling it off piece-by-piece on the internet. And we don't work cheap.

  22. In situations unlike this one - where entire vehicles
are able to be purchased - seldom is there
suitable equipment and an operator on-site
    to load you out.

Unless you have access to an open trailer and a large forklift like Coparts auction/insurance/salvage yards use - nothing is going to get moved.

I used to own a Hot rod /restoration shop for over 30 years. Bought and sold lots of cars and parts. Use to take days off from the shop and travel all around Wisconsin, Minnesota and northern Illinois Checking out old yards like this that I would hear about through the grape vine. I scored some good stuff in the early 80s and 90s. But by the mid 90s those yard owners and their kids were getting smart so to speak. So, if you came out of the yard with a carb, a alternator or a starter or whatever they realized that there was a date code or something that made it valuable to you. And suddenly a part that wouldn't bring five dollars as scrape or a core at the local Napa was suddenly worth 75 or 100 dollars. Then what you heard through the grape vine was that the guy was a high-priced asshole. So, then nobody bothered to go there. Unless like me they knew what the value of that date coded carb did for the value of a numbers matching restoration. So, the yards owners aged, and the younger folks involved just saw old junk and scrape prices. So do you sit around and haggle with someone over a piece of trim for 20 bucks or do you hear x-number of dollars a ton and start counting cars at 2500 pounds apiece. What would you do? I agree there looks to be some neat stuff there, but time is money and land goes up in price every day. The owners are just making sound financial moves. So would I. Larry

It is weird that so few people know where this is. I have been there.

Never realized it was a secret.

That is Tehachapi Dismantling and Equipment. Their last known phone number is (661) 822-4935 or (661) 972-2850.

I do have to say that it is absolutely maddening to hear people who do not live in California tell us what California is doing.

The yards a disappearing because of property values. This particular one is next to housing, and they want to build more housing.

If it were full of valuable things, it would have long since been emptied out. I went there and got what I needed. If I could find it, anyone could.

As for OT vehicles that are not ICE powered (and this is factual, not political):

The plan is for no more new ICE cars and light trucks sold here by 2035, nothing more.

Nobody will stop you from driving your old car.

Since the US fleet has a persistent average of 12-years-old, it will be 2047 before the average car or light truck on the road even is a non-ICE vehicle.

How old will you be in 2047? I will be 77. I suspect that many of you will no longer be with us.

The sky is not falling. There is no need to spread FUD.

Grumpy, the yard sits in a less desirable area of town. Lots of older and run down housing. On the north side of the yard is a large yard owned by Waste Management. I am sure they would be more than happy to expand their operation onto the property once it is cleared. I really don't see builders coming in and creating housing there. The yard is roughly 100 yards by a city block long. Plus I am sure there would be E PA problems because of all the fluids Keating into the ground for 30 to 40 years .

Someone showed some whine about it photos including the Pontiac ht and the crusher with no address or details on FB a couple of days ago.
In some states whole cars are a pain in in the ass to sell out of a wrecking yard in one piece. If a guy could get the place to write several receipts for individual parts you are just buying parts that may or may not be off the same car. I knew a guy back years ago who bought a car by taking parts off it and buying them on separate days. He hauled the nose, doors and deck lid home one day, Got the body shell without the frame a couple of days later and then went back and got the frame. He took his stack of receipts along with his other recepts and bills of sale to the dmv and walked it right through the process.
