Cruisin' for a Cure 18th charity car show Sat. Sept. 23 2017 OC Fair & Events Center Costa Mesa CA Here's the first of two groups of "car stuff" for this thread covering the 18th annual "Crusin' for a Cure" show held once again in Orange County (So. Cal.) at the O.C. Fair & Event Center (fancy South Orange County lingo for a fairgrounds) located in the city of Costa Mesa (not far from Newport Beach, Santa Ana & Huntington Beach, CA). What is it? The event is held one day only from 6am thru 4pm with no limitations on what type of four wheel (2WD or 4WD or AWD) vehicle you arrive in. You can cruise a 1.5 mile route around the grounds or just park to the side and lay the wheels over and profile all day. The focus is on getting people from all automotive backgrounds together for one day and encourage those of the male persuasion take about 10 min.'s out of their visit and have a simple test conducted to check their prostate (this year's program claimed over 800 men were tested last year with over 150 being told after testing they should make an appointment with their physician for additional medical attention). The testing component of the show is in the midst of many vendors, organized groups, show volunteers, indoor car show displays & car corral, along with the cruisin' route running throughout the grounds between the parked patrons and exhibition buildings. For those of us locals who can recall the heyday of the Orange County Cruisin'****oc.'s "Great Labor Day Cruise" annually held over Labor Day Weekend since it's inception in the early 1980's, this show is pretty much used that show as a blueprint as far as I can tell. The only difference is the "Cruisin' for a Cure" is like a mini-national event that easily had close to 1500 cars (maybe more) in my estimation that is held over one long day whereas, I'm sorry to say, the "Great Labor Day Cruise" still held earlier in the month of Sept. has become a shell of it's former self (but arguably still has potential under the right management & promotion and is a great place to camp out for the weekend with your hot rod, regardless). Well, 'nuff said; check out Part 1 of 2 & follow up with the 2nd part of this thread if you like (or when time allows). Hope you see something you like or is worthy of conversation (good or bad, but hopefully the former and not the later)....All the Best!...PRE48V-8\:^]
