I learned recently that my 32 ford 2dr sedan used to run at Ct dragway fairly regular back in the day.I'm trying to find out if anyone knows,or remembers the car.I don't have old pics of it in drag form (YET).But I do have a good HINT.The guy who raced/owned it lived in*****ord Ct and was HANDICAP.It had hand controls in it for the gas and brake.A roll bar was welded to the frame, which was in it when I found the car.It could have been red,I found red spray in the interior sheetmetal. It was channelled hard, and had a 55 chevy rear w/5:13's.I'm hoping the handicap hint triggers some memory.PLEASE spread the word and help me find the history. This is all pre- 1967.Thanks for the help,Mike
Nope, not the car. I forgot to mention....The top was never chopped ! And the front cowl area was channelled lower than the rear,it had a heavy rake Thanks alot, that was a good try. That car looks cool!!
Hey 37BILL,Wassup bro.I see you made your way to the H.A.M.B. I'll run your coupe bro, that would be fun..I plan on running it after the gear swap. I found out a few months ago that my Uncle Bob,(who turned the the drag car into a hot rod in 1966-67),bought it from I guy in*****ord Connecticut, who was handicapped. He said the car ran at Ct dragway with hand controls for the gas +brake. I got to check out all the photos from the drag reunion alot closer. You got any ideas of where or who I could look for info?
That would be great. That will give me a reason to hand in my membership form too.You pick the date and time, and let me know. How cool would that be if we found some pictures of it?I bet someone out there will remember the handicapp deal.If its true I may channel it again..
I'll ask my Dad next time a talk to him. He raced there in the '60s with the Eliminators out of New London, and with Steve Harwood's AA/FA. I think Safarinut here on the HAMB has some vintage photos from CT Dragway.
Hey cool duece...we can go anytime we can get together....as far as the channel...your killin me....just couldnt leave well enough alone ...could ya..
Try Don Gallant - Dons Speed shop in Newington. There might be a pic in the book Cool Cars Square Roll Bars by Arnie Shuman. Good Luck
Yea, Check with Pete Bozo, he used to work there (CT Dragway). He may have come with the deed. HAHA. Billy
BTTT for some more help please.I figure the more rodders see this the better my chances!!Thanks for the help.... Mike
NEW UPDATE: My friend found out that there was a handicap rodder named BOB HURLY who drag raced at CT and Dover back in the 50's/60's,who lived in*****ord,CT and is now possibly living in Florida.Anyone know this guy?Or heard of him?
