My hats off to them, but honestly...where's the logic?

I mean, if I needed to build something from scratch to risk my nuts trying to cross 70+ miles of open ocean, I don't think I would choose to start with something really heavy that does not float.

They've obviously done an really admirable job of overcoming the Buick's natural tendency to head straight for the bottom, but don't they have any BOAT builders in that country?

well.. there are probably alot more 40-50s cars then there are boats...for one. I don't think Castro lets anyone leave the country either. My question is why are the Coast Guard going that far out? Isn't that international waters? My understanding our costal waters are only 5 miles out.

I'd roll up the windows too and stomp the gas [IMG]

As for thier choice of colors, yes by all means make it a blue green next time to blend in [IMG]

The cost guard riddled it with bullets and sank it. I love those cars too!

There are also probably even more rocks than there are 40-50s cars, but I wouldn't choose to build a boat out of one.

Being in international waters gives the Coast Guard more time to find and intercept incoming vessles. Theres no law stating that they have to remain in the coastal waters. Hell my pops in law was on a Coast Guard icebreaker (Eastwind) in the late fifties. He saw more time at see that quite a few regular navy guys I know. Trips to both th arctic and antartic ask the kiwis about operation deep freeze.

I'd love to see those guys make it too. and they will someday. Once they set foot on US soil they are basicly home free. But if they were to change the law for everyone that set sail for the states got a pass ,I'd hate to see the death toll on that.

has to be some kind of inside joke!, i mean if they can make cars float here from cuba they are obviously smart enough not to paint it bright green and make themselves stick out like a sore thumb????

maybe when the get deported the first thing they do is go to the bar yuk it up and start on another for next year???

does anyone know if the cars still run and drive ,are their intentions to hit the beach and drive across the u.s?

i think they earned there citizenship the first time, with out a doubt!

  9. This might be a little off-the-wall but some of the older members of the board will remember the rash of hi-jackings of aircraft in the US that started in the 60's.Many of the hi-jackers wanted to fly to Cuba.It didn't make a whole lot of sense at the time as Cuba was under the thumb of Fidel Castro and was repressive to say the least.
What a lot of people don't realize is that before this a lot of Cubans were hi-jacking the Cuban Air Force's planes and flying them here.I was stationed in Key West in 64-65 and we had a dozen or so planes land there from Cuba.
I believe the reasons for all the US hi-jackings were two-fold:First there were people who stole airplanes and came here and decided they were homesick so they just stole another plane to go home.
Second:Castro was pissed that his air force was rapidly becoming de-populated and sent his pilots over here to replenish his fleet.
Just some useless info to go along with this post.

I think they should either enforce the borders 110% or not have any restrictions, no borders at all, but that's not why I'm writing.

I'm totally aghast at every news story I've read and all the TV reporters here calling it a Chevrolet!
Why call it anything but "old car" if they don't know what it is?
It just makes me wonder how much other "News Truth" is inaccurate, wrong, a fabrication or an outright lie?

makes me sick they keep sinking them. if they were in a real boat they would just make them turn around. why not do the same with these amphibious cars??
