Has anyone dealt with the Cubel's lately? I sent in an order for a top and bottom 30 Standard Coupe wood kits and have not gotten a comfirmation. I called them also and the message says they prefer email messages. I left them my number and asked that they call me back. Nothing but crickets. The only reason I am trying to buy from them is past reputation and they ship free if both kits are bought together. Is there anyone else that you all would recommend? Seems like most of the searches I made were old posts concerning wood kits.
Not my personal experience, but a good friend of mine is having the same issue. Hasn't heard anything back since September/October for some '34 wood. I've heard Brad Browns Wood Shop in Friday Harbor, Washington is good too. That's all I know of them though.
I I’ve used wood from Cubel’s and Brad Brown. There is no comparison in quality. Brad’s stuff is high quality cabinet like and Cubel’s was ruff cut with no attention to detail. My Cubel’s 34 phaeton cowl wood also had the counter sunk holes on the wrong side for the lower bracket. Cubel’s also sold me roadster B pillar wood for my phaeton.
I hope that the free freight deal works out for you. About 7-8 years ago Cubel’s charged me $230 (10%) for a box that was about 10”X10”X 40” and weighed less than 30lbs .
Brad Brown is a cabinet maker, Cubel is a carpenter. I have used both and there is no comparison. Sometimes it's about availability to keep a project going so you sacrifice quality for the sake of time.
Right now availability is the problem. I car builder told me to go ahead and order the wood even if I did not need it right away. He said his supplier is 6 months out from getting caught up. Cubel contacted me over the weekend and is shipping today. I should get it by the end of the week. J
I had some Cubel's stuff, way back, and they were slow back then - before the excuse of blaming "supply chains" and such. However, the kit was pretty decent. It was missing a piece and they took care of it promptly. I got my last wood kit from either Snyder's or Bratton's or maybe a mix of both. What I enjoy about the two is they have a good relationship and they'll refer to each other. I can't remember, off hand, where they got the kit from. On my coupe, I had a lot of fun refining the kit to fit. It was decent to start but after chopping and fitting it, it's one of the things I get complemented on when folks see the coupe.
I bought a complete wood kit for a T roadster back in the day when the original guy ran it. Everything went O.K. Now it's run by the kids so things may be different.
