    Merry Christmas Dale!

  2. Set the body on the frame yesterday for a mockup. I need to take out some leaves in the rear T spring and reverse the mainleaf. I should have done that in the beginning but I wanted to see where I was at. Needs to come down about 4 1/2 inches in the rear. I might have to modify my rear crossmember some more to get it where I want. Front looks like the about the right spot when the motor gets in there. Rear wheel well area needs a little more work. I have some trimming to do. Lots of tweaking for sure but it's a start.
Can't wait to get this mother chopped.

No snow, palm trees and a '34 in the driveway.

    ...Nice.

  5. Ya, I'm really living large here Kris! Right now it's too damn cold for me. I actually have a heater in my garage. Anybody know what the least amount of spring leaves one can use on a T spring and still get a half way decent ride?

It's a guess Dale, but I'd say about five or six. I know that I have used that number in an "A" spring before, 'course that's a quarter inch wider. That's what I would shoot for though. It was good to see you at the Phoenix swap this weekend. I can just imagine how cold that ride up was in the rpu at about Eloy or so!

  7. She's really lookin sweet Curbspeed. I'd try 8 leaves and reversed eyes...

  8. I froze my ass off getting up to that swapmeet. It was about 32* going past Picacho Peak. My blood has thinned quite a bit since living in Arizona. Driving back was great. Wish I would have found some parts at the swap. I think it will get better.

  9. Well It's a long way off from where I want it. Rear tire has to fit up into the wheelwell and the top needs to be hammered about 5 inches and then it will start looking like a hotrod in my opinion. Thanks though Russ.

  10. Russ. I see you modified your original comment and yes this car will be a B/ville/drag car in attitude. Not all cars were low. Late 58-62 period build. Not really caring about being exact just building a badass hotrod that will turn some heads and be able to make some long distance runs.

Looking really good, Dale! You may have mentioned it earlier in this thread... but, any chance you are driving it to Bonneville in August?

  15. Rob, I hear it's about 27* up there right now. Jump in your 35 and drive down to Portland and back with the windows down. Make sure you crank out that front winshield too. Then will see. Ya!

  16. heck already did that ! oh the front doesn't crank out, I haven't replaced the regulator yet. But I rolled down both with side windows, and the back ...I even put my sunglasses on and didn't were my jacket.. thanks for the sun !!

Lookin' tight man. I guess that is the benefit of having a midwest car with no floor in it. I can build the chassis for my '34, set the body on it where it looks right, then build the floor to hold it there...

Can't wait to see more progress on yours!

  20. Alright, I was going to wait till the fuel lines were plumbed in but ok. First pic is of the original 1957 Olds J-2 intake with matching number carbs. This intake had never been molested and has been sitting like this forever it seems. 1 of 2500 from the dealer option program from what I have read.(could be wrong)
I was lucky to have my friend John(1950ChevySuburban here) help me rebuild the carbs( I mostly watched and learned). Thanks a zillion John!
After the carbs were stripped and cleaned I took them to Braswell's here in Tucson to get coated. They put a nickel type of finish on them. I liked it better than the gold zinc chromate stuff. Pretty reasonable too.
Linkage was pretty straightforward and works slick. Did away with all the stock vacuum components so I could go progressive. I copied my buddy Ray Forbes in this area. He helped get me going in the right direction. I know he lurks here so thanks Ray.
Powdercoated the intake black. Chrome was not going to work even though I wanted to do it. Chromer said I would not be happy with the results. Hard to throw chrome down in the valleys and look good. Here are the preliminary pics of this weeks work. I get sidetracked on these subcomponets sometimes. It's all gotta get done sometime though. Enjoy my little bit of hotrod porn.

Damn Dale those look amazing! I think the black looks great with those carbs! It's really going to be bitchen when you get it all together, love the copper tubing!

  22. Thank you Mr. Butler. I appreciate it. Should look pretty stunning with the Hugger Orange block and heads. I hear you fellas are getting a little bit of the white stuff today. I hate that shit. Good luck driving with all the crazies!

  23. Looks good dale. Are those filters something that originally came in those scoops or something you crammed in there?

  24. They were in there when I got them from a fellow hamber. NOS in the box. Can't remember who it was now. Not sure about the filters. Not a great fit but it will work. Dusty here in the desert and I want something. My 29 has nothing.

  28. Hey it snowed here today... I was thinking of you !!! LOL

  29. Thanks fella's! Ya I saw the weather doom and gloom on the news about your snowstorm. I think it will be about 74 here tomorrow. Rough winter. Gonna have trouble making it out to the shop. Might have to plow. Not sure. I think I'll wear some shorts tomorrow while I"m doing it. Thanks for the nice comments. I do love me some Dr. Oldsmobile. Cool motors.
