Love the little dimples in the copper straps. They are for added strength, right?

Thanks, The little dimples were just a cosmetic embellishment. I thought about punching holes in the straps but wanted to keep the strength in the copper straps. I marked out the spacing on the back of the straps and used a socket on small hand press to make the dimple shapes in the copper. I put a glove under the copper so it had some give. Was really simple to do and looks different. You just had to be careful each time lining up the socket so it didn't get off center. I like simple details. My goal is Bonneville. I will make it. Just not this year.

NZ rodder. You must of had a lot of time on your hands because this thread has gone on forever. I am obviously in no big hurry with this project. I enjoy working on it when I can. Glad you enjoyed it. I hope some guys have been able to use some of my ideas. There is nothing new in hotrodding just different variations of the same ideas.

Dan, Hope he's faster than me. You might get to drive yours sometime this decade. Ha! Good luck on your build. I bet it will be awesome. Is he going to chop it as much as mine? Mine's 5 1/2 inches.

D ROD, You got your car back in Jersey? How's it going. I wanna see pics of your car out at events. Do you like driving it and how are you doing with the vision aspect of the chop? I think you should do a post on your exploits. Give us the lowdown on your badboy. I saw it at Walden's and tried to find you that night with no luck. I was driving my rpu.

Sorry, I missed you at Waldens. I did meet Rory and his dad and talked for an hr or so.

No exploits yet, car is still with Rudy. We are working on some small details still like finishing making all gauges functional, marker lights etc.

When I drove out there is was an insane feeling. No prob with visibility except to the sides when changing lanes. I used my I phone as a mirror Lol. Looking forward was fine.

All in all car is ***s to drive, everything else was smooth!!!

Doing tedious work right now.(Not picture friendly) I'm having to fabricate from scratch a rear window ***embly. It's trial and error right now. I want the rear window to crank like original but I was missing some of the wood bits. No pictures of this part but I do have some pics of the car going into it's new laboratory and some work I did on the doors around the window frames.( Leading edge) The Laboratory 005.JPG The Laboratory 014.JPG The Laboratory 010.JPG The Laboratory 001.JPG The Laboratory 004.JPG The Laboratory 005.JPG The Laboratory 005.JPG The Laboratory 005.JPG The Laboratory 014.JPG The Laboratory 010.JPG The Laboratory 001.JPG The Laboratory 004.JPG The Laboratory 005.JPG

Somehow I got too many images into this post. Not used to this new format yet. I'll figure it out. Sorry. I am working on the coupe again. It's been along time getting to this point. I had to get a workspace up again after moving into new digs. I'm really happy now.

  17. new workspace is 'personal', like it, the coupe looks like it has a home, which is really cool.

As you know Dale, appreciate seeing your vision come to life, and find it inspiring to keep aiming high.

    Those chrome inner guards rock.

    Cheers,

Chopped my rear window garnish tonight. Never done one before. Four more to go. 2 5/8th of an inch center. Not much more than a mail slot. Insert checks or cash please. chopped rear window garnish34 002.JPG Rear window will roll up too. Still waiting for some parts to finish the window channel part of it.

  22. very cool.

Will be interested to see how you approach that back window as it's one area on mine that I've been 'overthinking' for a long time, going in circles, especially if you add a bulkhead between the trunk and cabin area.

I'll post some pics of the wood and framework I made tonight . I have to order my window channel from Mac's for the gl*** to sit in unless someone here has one they don't need. The Bones guys set their sliver of gl*** in solid. I love the mechanism and wanted to use it even though it's not much of a window. I like air moving around me. I got a new drip pan from Brookville. I had to bend it somewhat to get it to fit where I wanted it. I doubt I will build a bulkhead. The fuel tank takes up so much room that I will need every inch when I pack for trips. Drewfus your car is looking great. I like your plan. Do you remember what issue of Street Rodder the Rolling Bones guys chopped the window garnish moulding for a 34 was?

  25. Thanks mate.

Great to hear you're into this window creation process, and share your perspective on the 'senses' of the airflow etc., so looking forward to seeing how you approach it as I think there's alot of similarities on what we want to achieve when it's all said and done.

Thanks for the reminder on this as I've only got a set of 4 door garnishmoulds that I can see myself spending a fair bit of time tweaking with a grinder and a tig.

I went into my box of discarded mags and pulled it out on the second try. July 2011. Ken Schmidt (Rolling Bones pal)also sent me a file of pics of the process. They did it with a TIG of course. I only have a MIG. Maybe I can tack them here and use my friends to finish on the TIG. We will see. Hope to work on something tomorrow night. I picked up 40 Ford quarters to modify. Should work I have the others.
I just went to the lab and looked at the 40 qrtr window moldings and I think in reality they will work better than the stock 34 units. They are almost identical in size as far as the molding itself. Not the shape mind you but the overall look of the thing is almost spot on. Get yourself a pair to modify Drewfus. The rear curve is even more extreme than the 34 so it will make it easier to get the tight curve at the back of the molding on the chopped car

No... I've been following. I haven't checked in in a while though. Love where it is going.

  30. Excellent, good call, will start the hunt...that will tick the boxes for sure...

As for TIG Vs MIG, tack that puppy up, get it to the shape you want/need then get a friend to TIG it for you, will be a much nicer product when it's all said and done if you can. Even if it were to distort a bit when it gets welded, it will still be servicable to work, plus, if 'push came to shove' afterwards and you found varience afterwards, it would be servicable to mig the door to suit, as it will effectively be covered anyhow.

Look forward to seeing more, appreciate the heads up.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus
