Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried using T-bird wrap around rear seats in a T-bucket? Just from appearances it looks like it might work out alright. Pictures? r Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Jack and whack. I’m thinking about if the curve was close to a T-bucket... r Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The other problem would be the thickness... in my T, I am basically up against the rear of the cab with about 1 1/2" of cushion behind me and it's still tight!
I tried this and it's pretty far off. Width wise you'd have to eliminate the center arm rest and cut the cushions down so basically all you have is a seat frame that curls around the side. The corner isn't too terribly far off, but the sides of the seat slope down at a different angle than the T body (mine is a '26) and as others have said, the thickness is an issue as well.
The covers if in very good shape, could be cut an used on new foam fitted to custom T frame work. The space in "Ts" is very small,so you need to be careful about not padding your self right out of car. This may help if your in to DIYS; https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-sew-at-home-upholsrety-hot-rod.604077/ I did this to my Son's 23T
T buckets are not really a sit back and relax ride, the seat bottom is the most important. The seat back and sides need some padding, but that can be accomplished with high density foam. You might consider the prefab glass insert that is available ( MAS Racing used to sell them). I had one in mine and it was OK. I never got to the interior, but I think that I would have made it flatter and formed the seat, especially the bottom, with the foam. Look in my album pictures to see what I'm talking about. Happy building, Carp.
I know it's hard to learn the old tried and proven ways. It's also hard to let go of $$$ for good work. What you want should be Kids Play for any Old upholstery guy. Meaning don't take him a bunch of stuff and expect him to make a Show Winning finish product. Hand building wrap around seat in a T body is no big deal. Go talk to all the shops you can find, then decide. They can give you that wrap around look you want much easier than you think.
A T-Bird wrap around round read seat is a little big for a T-bucket, but they really look good in a pick up truck cab.
