I will try a different approach. Bill Fitting followed up with a blown gas 33 coupe. The body is one of Matt and George Travers, Morgan Hill, CA, Kicker Craft beauties. (black gelcoat pics Sears Point) The Fitting Co. chassis experimented with torsion bars and carried a BBC. It ran A/GS in silver at The World Gasser Championships. Also shown at Willys Roundup 94.

The Varmit owned by Warren Bilbrey called Oakdale, CA home when this was shot at Pleasanton. 40 Willys coupe ran blown gas BBC at 5 lbs/cubic inch back in the last days of NDRA and second period of ANRA. Saw the car and Warren at Gateway Gasser Gathering in St. Louis in '99 and found out that they had moved to Alabama or somewhere in the southeast.

Thanks, Bob. Hang on as I try to work my way thru the west coast blown gas guys. (I mostly have pics of the west.) Any pics of Rick and Aggie Parrish's Aggravation Anglia, Howard Gottlieb's yellow Anglia, Chuck Young's Anglia and later Ute Scootin' Anglia Ute, Ray Caster's 39 Chev, Bob Clayton's Rat Infested 41 Willys, Gary Fore's black Willys, and Brian Stairs' Anglia posted will be appreciated. There are bound to be other 5 lb. blown GAS cars since the Fremont days. Then I will show naturally aspirated cars and ask for some help there. I WILL be covering the nostalgia cars that chose to run alcohol instead of gas, because "it was easier on parts", since their story continues. See aasupercharged.net. We can fill in the blanks between now and then.

Aggravation. Rick AND Aggie Parrish, Phelan,CA. The BBC sat back far enough that scoop came thru windshield. In the points in the final years of NDRA. Pics from one of their events at the old Vegas track. Mucho fun to watch. Why would you want a center line rule when Anglias are running?

Rat-Infested, a blown gas BBC powered 41 Willys owned by BOB and DONNA CLAYTON, LaGrange,CA participated in NDRA and ANRA west coast events for many years. KS Pittman frequently tuned and occasionally drove this car. This car appears on most gasser videos. Additional pics appreciated. These are from Sears Point and Bakersfield.

RAY CASTOR ran a 39 Chev with a blown gas BBC out of San Leandro, CA. I am pretty sure this one came out to compete in The Fastest Street Rod class (or Super Street) and ran infrequently in A Gas Eliminator (lovingly referred to as fruit salad) at Goodguys events. Efforts to run similar cars in separate classes only occurred once, at Pomona, with pretty good success. Rick Gold and Rhys Lloyd put a TON of effort into creating the Pacific Coast Gasser Association, using historically significant rules to separate similar cars into heads-up classes at second era ANRA events. This car could have competed in A/GS at either of these events.
If you use your imagination, you can almost see Castor making a pass at Sears Point.

Gary Hart and Ron Kilmer ran two 41 Willys out from Springfield, MO. Both supercharged gas, Hart's yellow coupe ran a Big Block w/carbs. Kilmer's 392 was fed by a 4 port Hilborn and turned a torqueflite. Recreating the gasser wars, putting on a show, and having a good time was their quest. Shown here at Sears Point. In '94 they faced off in the A/GS final at Denver, with Kilmer's trans giving up and Hart taking the title.

Thanks Dave. I would love to see current pics and get updated info. If they run it on gas, now would be the time to post. Thanks to Larry T, so far I have been talking about 5 lb./cubic inch blown gas cars that raced in a heads-up A/Gas Supercharged class since nostalgia racing started. I'm thinking 85 or so, but there are clubs and tracks which have been putting on "vintage" events for quite a while. Many of those cars fit drag cars in motion thread. Some belong here. Larry T said pre 68 car post 68 photo. Helped me.
If the Varmit runs alky, maybe they could wait til we get to gassers on meth. That might be the time to open a new thread to debate "the gassers on alcohol" deal. Be patient on that one, please.

WHOA, if you're paying attention to anything I say you're probably messing up. You'd have to ask the guy who started the thread what belongs here. That was just my take on what I'd post here and a comment on that one particular car.

But while we're talking about that post, did Stairs Beatnik run on pump gas, racing gas, or alcohol? I'm betting most of the guys that are close to the 8.00 mark run alcohol, just because it's easier to tune and easier on parts.

Larry T, Stairs ran gas, probably racing gas, because he was a serious competitor in a blown gas class and, personally, honored the history. There was a fuel check and you had to roll across the scales at no less than 5 lbs./cubic inch. They would also check your engine size. Real racing. You are correct that some of the teams that brought out old cars in the early days of nostalgia racing chose to run methanol. Corn was food. It's not that there was anything wrong with making that decision, but doing so changed the deal. Quite literally, there was no class name for gassers on meth, yet. In the beginning, it did not matter too much. People were just playing with their cars. When the racing got serious, parity became a problem. Alcohol was easier, UNTIL guys started running it hard. The cars shown so far, chose gasoline. Few saw any reason to try and compete against blown alcohol cars. They could not figure out why all sanctioning bodies didn't run a blown gas class. The story continues.

Here is another blown gas car in it's earliest stages. CHUCK and MARCELLA LIPKA's Willys at their Gateway event in 99. As did early A/GS cars, their's was evolving from an over-powered old car to the basis of the Geezer Gassers. (3 and 4) Read about them in Dec 12 Street Rodder mag.

Gotta love those fire burnouts! Here is a BLOWN GAS car/truck called UTE SCOOTIN', owned and built by CHUCK and SHARI YOUNG, Lancaster, CA. Chuck loved drag racing and Anglias. The candy burgundy Popular (still looking for a better pic) with blown BBC and Mike's Glide was a player in A/GS, because of Chuck's skill and dedication as a builder, tuner, and driver. It evolved from a naturally aspirated version which runner-upped in A/G at Denver WGC. As I recall, wind got the sedan at Vegas, so the drive train went into the Ute (Australian Anglia utility) which was already under construction. One of a kind and a potentially serious threat, Chuck and the Ute got quicker and quicker. Ran a best of 152. Head-on shot from 2000 March Meet. Cancer took this great racer and Shari found a good home for Ute Scootin' with Carlos and Mary Cedeno, NY, right along side King Kong.

BLOWN GAS CARS - I am diggng for pictures, but not finding them. SO, I am inserting this reply that I can edit. I mentioned above names of cars I needed help with. Please post any pics you have of them.
HOWARD and ANN GOTTLIEB, Northridge, CA, ran an Anglia named Blown Innocence. The name referred to his work as an attorney. No good guesses why it was previously named The B-Itch. A blown BBC powered this lane-changer, which last competed in ANRA and Pacific Coast Gasser Assn. events. Howard put his engine in a Topolino altered and was seriously injured at Palmdale.
