Here is the "Yellow Submarine" I built along with the owner. It ran a 9.52 @ 139.99 on this pass (first full pass on new motor). We found this car in the wrecking yard for $250.00 and it was evident it had spent some time at the track a LONG time ago by some of the things that had been done on the car.

Here is a picture of my Maverick, the wheels up picture is at the Fremont Drag Strip in 1979, and the car in 2010 at the Redding Drag Strip, the oldest continuiously run NHRA drag strip in the US.
I am putting the graphics back on it like it was when it ran in B/SM at the 79 Winternationals in Pomona, oddly enough all but one of sponsers are still in business.
The car is currently having the drivetrain refreshened and will be hitting the track later this year...................after 32 years of use.
Back in the 79/80/81 it ran a Clevor (302w with Cleveland heads) and crash box....in the
10.3's.............now with the 408 and powerglide it can run sub 10's with a best of 9.801 @ 133.

Here's my slant six powered HAMB Dragster at "speed", low speed that is. Got a better engine on the stand.
Casual Six, that's a serious 292.

 

Can someone explain (in simple terms please) why these newstalgia FED's have the driver sat so high up,some look really strange.

4. The sloped underbelly between the slicks of the raised driver configuration actually acts as a Ground Effects Tunnel actually aiding traction at speed.
5. Did I mention, So you can see?

 

Sight seeing never was a factor during the inception of slingshots.
Drivers view did improve with front steered cars, but I can't understand present slingshot design either.
It still appears to me conventional low close cockpit should be far safer than altered/funny-car style high and extra width driver compartments found on these cars today, irregardless of how many extra roll bar hoops you add.

For the most part, this Thread has been doing really good.

But some Users still need to be reminded of the Mid 60's Cut Off date we have here on the HAMB.
( which also includes this Thread)

So that should eliminate any Maverick's, Camaro's, etc.
And hopefully, those bizarre looking high chair FED's.

 

Because it's easier for stuff blown off the engine to hit you in the face...(had it happen in the old days, even sitting low).........(seriously, have wondered the same thing...)
