Custom '53 grill?

Don't know if this has been covered before since I can't search, so I'll ask anyways.
How is this look achieved on the grill? Is the regular grill just cut and welded in, then smoothed out with body filler, or is there something else that's done? Anybody got pictures of the process? Thanks

 

all i see is a red x, if im ***uming your talking about a 53 chev, then yes thats how its done, its an old customizing trick. i have a how to in one of my old rod and custom little books and plan to use it on my chev when i get closer to the bodywork stage.

 

Yeah a 53 chev. Don't know what happened to the pic.
Any way/chance you could scan the how to?
