Let's see pics of your custom built center consoles. I've got some ideas, but would like to see how others have tackled the project. If you also have info as far as the materials/process you used, I would appreciate that too!
heres one i'm working on for my 51 chevy. the top is a few buick riviera pieces, with some billet made to match the buick pieces. the base is steel, 18 gauge welded to 1/2" tube.
I don't have pictures as I haven't done any, but I've seen 3/8 tube used as the frame work and then sheetmetal (20 gage) to "skin" it. This way after its all finished it has a nice radiused edge...
at one time I gave some thought to inverting a oil pan and forming that to fit the center floor hump between the seats...it never happend....
I'm not showing anyone the plywood POS I'm working on. But I am real interested in seeing your stuff.
While not traditional, here is my plywood POS upholstered with Lexan top insert in my 65 Corvair. The electrical system / fuse block is below the door in the console.
different approach to the consoles posted here but I used a pair of 65 Thunderbird seats in my truck then built a subwoofer box to hold a single Kicker 10" square solobaric that wraps around the passenger seat. I then build an aluminum arm rest to cap it.
This isn't traditional but I built this for my son's 67 chevy pick-up. I used 3/4" mdf for the sub-woofer box at the back. I built a framework from 1X2 then covered it in thinner mdf for the sides, etc. and cardboard for the curved section. I cut down cardboard tubes to make the bead around the edge, then covered the whole thing in layers of fiberglass resin. Then painted it to match the truck. Took some time designing and building it to fit the area. Red
Here's one I biult in a 55 buick.Used 1/2 tubing and 20 gauge sheet metal.More pics on my website autoartistry.com
