Now I'm going into this with the intention of not starting any kind of ***** session but I have to ask... Reading these postings it seems that there aren't any kustom events in the Midwest and if there was it would be the neatest thing and everybody would want to attend. Why this event is stated to have brought back memories of the KKOA shows in Holland MI. Well if a kustom show in the Midwest is such an in demand event and the memories of the KKOA are just great where in the hell was everybody the last two years when the KKOA has presented an event in the middle of Wisconsin. Check out the websitewww.kkoanorthevent.yolasite.com.
Now we have some KKOA directors chiming in here and they get all the newsletters, so no BS. about not knowing of the show. It has been on the HAMB for two years now and individuals have replied about "I'll be there", never to show or even call to say "Hey sorry but something has just come up". Jerry has worked hard to promote this event and if you look at the web pictures you'll see that it's probably the best setting you could want for a kustom event.
Now go ahead and get on my case. I'm a big boy, But don't go smart talking just a bunch of trash. Make a valid point. If you looked at the Wisconsin event but there was something you didn't seem to like about it LET US KNOW. If you're truly kustom people and would like some real cl***y kustom shows YOU have to show some support. Otherwise the event will go away and you will be left to attend what you have with your muscle and rice burners.
By the way I'm John and the KKOA Director for Wisconsin.

I appreciate what the KKOA has done for the kustom/custom movement, but I get the feeling that many people don't feel they are a kustom organization anymore or even a kustom & hot rod organization. I understand the need to expand to keep the doors open, but once you lose your core group, well those people might as well join one of the big organizations.

Just a thought or two from a former member of both Kustom organizations. Also a former Director for the other kustom club, so i know where you're coming from.

what you seem to be missing here is traditional customs only! no street rods, hot rods, rat rods or anything else to run up a number count, JUST customs. that's what made this event so different. and by the way, it would have been much more professional to start your own thread instead of crashing someone else's to promote your own show.

I agree with Jerceymike. That is what was so good about the early KKOA meets. Just customs.

Jersey Mike... You really don't think that this reply was done to promote a show do you? If you do you're 100% wrong. I do not understand how certain individuals always see the negative in everything. Why don't you just try constructive criticism now and then. I do not know where you get the idea that there were Rat Rods or Street Rods in attendance. There were A few "HOT RODS at the show but so what. That goes with the tradition. And you can't get more traditional than the KKOA. If it wasn't for the KKOA there probably would not be any kustom events at all to attend. And if you want to only attend events that have only kustoms then attend and support those event that promote the kustom movement, so they can afford to present the type of show you want. You just look at the style and setting of the Wisconsin show. You think all that came free. That was presented to give back to the participants a venue to be proud to attend and display their vehicle at. And no it wasn't set up this way just to attract the gold chainers and trophy hunters. This was set up so everyone could spend a weekend in a very enjoyable surrounding. Look at the pictures and check out the website. Then make constructive remarks on what it will take to make you want to attend ....

ALL CUSTOMS AND CUSTOMS ONLY, not sure what your not getting here. stop taking this as a personal attack (remember you said you were a big boy) this is a positive thread about an event that people loved. if your event didn't do as well as you had hoped don't look for fault in other events. bottom line is custom people want custom shows. this show proved if you give them that, they will come. this is the last i will respond since there is no other way to make you understand. thanks for enjoying my thread.

Your group needs to focus on its show. This thread about THEIR show, which looks to be a winner from all angles. Please leave this thread in peace.

There are Buick shows, Cadillac shows etc. You wouldn't take a Corvair to a Corvette show. It's nice to have a gathering of certain types of cars. Goodguys and NSRA now have late model cars at there shows and a lot of us have quit those group because of it. If you like a specific type of car it's nice to not have to wade thru a lot of stuff you're not interested in.

Mike - I really enjoyed your thread. Your event is what the kustom people dream of and I do hope that it is able to continue for many more years. What you have posted is what a true kustom show really is. Nothing I posted was to be taken as a negative. I wanted honest responses to a question. I got some. I hope I get more. What I was after was a direction to head to so that we are able to present an event that the kustom people will want to attend also. And I do hear what is being said about KKOA and only customs. Yes there were some real glory years. It is to bad it could not have remained that way ....

Primer and in process is fine. As long as it it a trad style custom it is in. What they don't want is the "rat kustom" stuff. The stuff made to look ratty, barbed wire, and **** like that.

This is the email sent out yesterday in case you did nor get it.

Well, Congratulations!  We did it!  You did it!  There was a revival last weekend and you played an important role by coming to the show! Wasn't it great?!   With just under 100 car registrations, last weekend's revival for custom cars was a success.  We can all be proud of what we did...because we proved a 100%, pure, custom car show is still possible!  The chrome, the candy, smell of leather and gas fumes; it was like a dream for most of us. In addition, we (you, Bob, and I) donated almost $2000 to the Alzheimers ***ociation for research.  That donation should make us all feel even better about the show.   Also important, Jeff Edwards (our host), at Edwards Drive-In, was overwhelmed with kind comments, compliments, and a great day of sales (from which a portion of these proceeds, including 100% of T-shirt sales, was also donated to The Alzheimers ***ociation).  He was humbled by our crowd of friendly faces and laughter and amazed when it seemed like virtually every participant told him "We're coming back next year and we're bringing our friends!".  Although Jeff has hosted many car shows in the past, he had never heard that before...and was very pleased.  By the way, he noticed (as Bob and I did) that when all the cars pulled out, there was not one spec of paper or trash left in the parking lot.  The entire Edwards staff was impressed with our event. So while it seems like the show was just yesterday, it's been about a week, and Summer marches on.  That presents an opportunity for us.  As you enjoy shows during the rest of the year, consider sharing the Custom Car Revival experience with your custom friends.  If everyone could just bring one, one additional friend and their custom, imagine what a great experience it would be for all of us, next year! Annnnd, yes, you heard it, right. Due to your overwhelming encouragement, Bob and I are already working on next year's, 2014 Custom Car Revival.  (Hint, hint...more fun and more fun things to do!!) Early June dates will be announced as soon as we can. When we've tied down the date, you'll be the first to know, we promise, because as we've said, the Custom Car Revival is not "our show"...it's your show! Annnnnnnd, to a very few of you who are receiving this email, but were unable to attend the show, we wanted you to know all of this as well.  After all, we're all family and you were missed!  Also, those participants who didn't provide us their email address will be receiving this information via snail mail this week. Finally, I keep thinking about last Saturday, when I looked at all those beautiful customs and said out loud to myself, "Holy Cow, can you believe it?" What a day it was !! Thanks for all of your support, encouragement and friendship.  Stay tuned, there's more fun to come! Vrrrrooooommmm!!!

Personally, I think the most IMPORTANT thing I see about this show is that OVER $2000 was DONATED to the Alzheimer's ***oc...!!!

NOT ONE of the promoters (Kevin or Bob) put any money (from this event) in their pocket...AND the event was organized to NOT make money, all from a $10.00 entry fee (ya certainly can't say that about KKOA...or KOA...or WEST COAST KUSTOMS...or NSRA...OR GoodGuy's or nearly ANY OTHER rod run event in the country. It was a "REVIVAL"... something other organizations have gotten away from.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool kustom guy, I got my driver's license in November, 1959, my first "Kustom" was a '50 Stude Starlight coop (Dad said I couldn't get killed in it -little did he know), I then "graduated" to a three year old '57 Chevy-the first thing I did was remove all the emblems and change the grille and put wide whitewalls on it-I wanted a kustom, like the ones in all the magazines. I even learned how to pinstripe because I wanted a kustom. Believe it or not, I've never been without a 'kustom'...

It reads like the 'Revival' will hold another event next June...I hope, in the plans, they plan a weekend long event (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)...if so, I'll make the 1100 mile trip from here..just to be around like-minded individuals.

    R-

there is room at this event for 200 cars, It is going to be a mad dash when the dates are announced for next years event for pre registrations... It is going to be up to everyone that enters to KNOW what a TRADITIONAL custom is and if your car is not then by all means do not go.... lets keep this pure

one way or the other even if have to park outside anyway and walk over to see the

Like Roger said besides all the money for charity.
We got there early to set and control what cars got on the lot, the lot was clean. When everybody had gone the lot was just as clean as when we got there. I have been to a lot of shows that when people were gone there was trash everywhere. I think everyone there gets a pat on the back for that also.
